3d printing with voxels

Post by Batteau62 »

Haven't posted for a while, life gets busy. This topic has been on my reading list lately. I'm interested in what this community thinks of the subject. Here are some links to articles I've read.

http://3dprintingindustry.com/2013/04/3 ... el-method/" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false;
http://3dprintingindustry.com/2013/05/2 ... d-part-ii/" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false;
http://www.engineering.com/3DPrinting/3 ... ygons.aspx" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false;
http://creativemachines.cornell.edu/Rapid_Assembler" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false;
http://www.schouwenburg.com/future-of-3d-printing-3/" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false; (this is a multi part article. Use the back link on the page to read from the beginning.)
http://www.ngrain.com/why-voxels-why-now/" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false;

I've also played with some of the apps for voxel modeling. Here are some links:

https://voxel.codeplex.com/" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false; (this is the one I use the most, it's free)
http://www.minddesk.com/" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false; (downloaded the free trial.)
http://zoxel.blogspot.co.uk/p/about-zoxel.html" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false; (have not tried it)
There are many others.

This app is an actual front end for printer control. Very interesting. http://voxelizer.com/welcome/" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false; I haven't had time to try it. Post results here if someone does?

I think the potential in "additive manufacturing" is game changing. Unfortunately, it's not yet fully realized. The software and hardware seem to be in their infancy stage. So what do you guys think? And when is the "SeeMeCNC Rapid assembler" going to hit the market :?: :D

One of the big boys has created its own voxel file format...

Any thoughts?

How cool would it be to print your own soft body robot!

If you just ordered, you'd be getting a Version 2 Rostock, and I believe that is included in the hot-end kit now. You're reading the older assembly guide for the Version 1 Rostock.

More than just the wrong thread. It's so precisely what I typed a few weeks ago (http://forum.seemecnc.com/viewtopic.php ... 820#p51820) that I suspect it's a bot trying to fool us for some reason rather than a person. First post for it too.

I wonder if this technology is so encumbered with patents that nobody will be allowed to do open source work with it until 2030.

(I'm gonna guess that the answer is YES.)

US patents really need to not last for 20 years. It's a revolting abuse of the public trust that one entity can have a monopoly for a fifth of a century. I thought our country was supposed to be all about "trust busting," but it's the same old crap it always was - like they said, "welp, we busted up Ma Bell, guess we're done forever."
