I'm going through the steps in https://www.repetier.com/firmware/dev/index.php
and thinking "huh. I bet these answers, aside from the hotend, are all the same for Rostock Max v2 folks. I should ask them before guessing!"
Anyone had success with that tool? Is it overkill?
Anyone used the repetier.com firmware configuration tool?

The tool works well. I've been running 1.0.3 for a week, and 1.0.2 for a year or more. What helps is a working configuration to start with (upload). I'll post mine here, but be warned that you should look at MOTOR_CURRENT_PERCENT - This is different than the previous versions that used 0-255 to set the digipots. Also know that my dimensions that I started with before tuning are in there, along with PIDs, the fact that I have a light, and I'm using a custom thermistor for the hotend. Start with this, it will answer most of the questions, and tweak values based on your EEPROM settings before downloading.
That said, the Configuration.h only needs the json block to import the settings.
Use at your own risk.

Just be aware that if you've got an HE280 hot end, the only firmware that supports the auto-calibration feature is SeeMeCNC's fork of Repetier firmware.
