Tension

Post by DeltaCon »

Hi,
I am wondering if my timing belts are too loose. I can easily pull them (all three equally) almost 1,5 cm out of the T slot.
Is that too loose? Is there a way to measure the tension?

There is no specific tightness parameter and no reliable to measure the tightness. I tighten mine until there is a slight movement when pulled on a they make a low note when plucked.
Yours does sound too loose so I would tighten them up and try to make all three equal.
Threads that deal with belt tightness are here:

Where it really matters (like on motorcycle drive belts) they generally use a specific amount of force applied at a specific point on the belt and measure the deflection. Whether it's worth it to go to the trouble to develop that process and the criteria, well...
