Hi,

just updated to Version 2.2.
Some needful improvements they made.

I´m not at home at my printer, but as far as I can see, fiddling with the new Version, there are lot of helpfull settings in there.

Please try and send some pics....

Can´t wait to go home and check the new Version printing.

cheers
Dirk

Awesome! Thanks for the heads up, downloading it now.

I see first layer width was added, the raft/skirt is missing from that page and put on "Additions". I feel like there is another raft option.

More support options, dense and regular, number of layers and infill percentage.
Other pages has some underspeed options.
Advanced has thin wall behavior I think that might be new.

I installed the update today and it will not run, just crashes as soon as you try to start new S3D.
My older version still works though.

I contacted tech support and they got back to me within a few hours, but gave me what I felt was a canned response... "update your video drivers"
I will do that but seems odd that the older version still works?
maybe the update has more graphics requirements?

I didn't have any issues but I run a quadro 3000 so I have more than enough power there.

Quite a few nice improvements in the latest version. If they keep this up I may have a good reason to finally switch from Cura.

A an S3D license gives you all the updates as well?

Yeah, why would they make you repeatedly pay the same fee every single year? What kind of company would do that? He he....

Seriously though, you do get every update for free after you pay for it the first time.

You're not familiar with SolidWorks are you? Costs me about $1250 per year for Solidworks Standard plus the purchase price.

I just found that installing the update to S3D just adds an installation. I opened from my shortcut and I got the old version, did a search and now I have 2 installations

No, I am aware of Solidworks and Autodesk charging you EVERY year an absurd amount to use their product. Well, as a student it seems absurd :P thats first line was sarcastic.

Also, you don't own SolidWorks so you can't sell your copy unless you sell your business! You just own a license to use it

When comparing S3D to its competitors (kisslicer, slic3r, matterslice, cura) is it _REALLY_ worth the $140?

I can't really compare as I haven't spent much time using other slicers. I do like all the options and controls. I would be willing to slice something for you but there are so many things to dial in that I don't think I could set it up perfect for your setup the first time.

I know it's been said before. Without a demo version to test I for one will NOT fork over money.
Besides like all slicers there are quirks to work around and hiccups.
I have read too many posts where the author doesn't respond to problems.
So IMHO open source gets my donation every time.

I had the cash and feel it has been well worth the purchase price.

Speed, no other slicer even comes close to as fast as it is, no matter the complexity of model. This is one of the very biggest pluses to me. I have not ever had any model of any size or complexity take over 1 minute to slice and slice nicely. This allows for you to try various settings, inspect and reslice the model over and over till it's just right all in the amount of time most other slicers have not even finished the first slice yet.

It's also an all in one solution, just like the repetier/slicer combo.

Doesn't crash on me anyways, I have yet to have a slicing process lockup or crash out or sit there doing nothing for hours.

I don't mind paying for the savings in my time alone. To me it's an essential tool, just like Photoshop, Maya or Premier.

Time savings is one of the only reasons I'm seriously considering it... hmmm...

I also had the money and decided to do it. It has worked VERY well for me. Biggest plus is the ability to manipulate support and to add a factory file for use later.

Even though I have used my printer for some functional parts, it is still like any other hobby. It is a hole in the table that I continue to throw sums of cash into with mixed results.

Does it work better than the others, so far for me it does. Is it worth $140 Bucks, your mileage may vary.

BTW - I loaded the update last night and ran the .exe file. It updated the original installation and kept the setup files and material profiles.
