Smoothieboard pause input

So basically I want to design a cheap 3D printable module (physical) with an encoders for jam detection, a mechanical or optical switch for end of spool detection, and a cleaner/oiler.

For this to work I would like to pause the print, not stop the print. Is there a way to pass a pause command? I'll be using an arduino pro mini for the detection module.
