Re: October 2014 Contest ! ! !
These are some shots of the Maleficent horns I'm making for a Halloween costume. The horns were printed in 6 separate pieces and then assembled. I then covered them in Worbla for the texture effect and will add paint and leather for the final finish. The design was created by Clay Cardwell (mrclaybo on the forum) and is available on Thingiverse here:

This is my first submission for the contest. The model is home grown. The filament is glow in the dark green from Filaments.ca . 210 nozzle and 60 bed. 2.5 layer height fo the first 100mm and 1.5 for the top.

Re: October 2014 Contest ! ! !
I modeled this dagger for my ten-year-old daughter's Halloween costume - she's going as Annabeth from the Percy Jackson books, and is supposed to have a "leaf-shaped" ancient dagger made of "celestial bronze" strapped to her arm. She tweaked the curves in Blender and I did this test print today. It nearly fills the Orion's available height at this size, and I think it'll be big enough for her, but then again I may have to enlarge it some more and then split it into two files for printing.

Nice job on the ghost and the knife.
Re: October 2014 Contest ! ! !
Whow, nice ghost.
What software did you use to model the ghost? Is the 3d generated or did you do it manually?

lroger01 wrote:My entry is a black widow spider. This spider was printed on my ORION in ABS. The body/head was printed with supports. The legs were printed on a 2 layer raft with supports and the raft was left on to simulate hairy legs.
The final spider is quite large. It made me jump more than once when I forgot it was there!
This spider is an original design. I did reference photos from Thinkstock (I have a license) when designing it. The files have been placed on Thingiverse http://www.thingiverse.com/thing:496999.
So I win, right?
Nice lookin spider! And thanks for sharing the link to the files.!

Wow all of these are amazing! I'm totally impressed with everyone in this thread!
I loved my Rostock so much I now sell them in Oz
Re: October 2014 Contest ! ! !
I like the checkers set and the horns the most. Checkers 'cause it's really pretty. Horns because they exemplify what 3D printers can be used to bring to fruition, very quickly and accurately.

This was a great model, just had to print it out at full size! https://grabcad.com/library/crystal-skull-1" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false; by Steve Haines. Used glow in the dark PLA @ 2.5 layer height. 13.5 hrs . The "scar" near the top was from the autopsy. (hmm the filament had a whoops).
Happy printing!

Re: October 2014 Contest ! ! !
Cutting it close! I've been diligently working on this project since the 3rd and I am ecstatic with how creepy this turned out. My spouse and I got a Rostock from the 3D expo back towards the end of August and have been having a blast learning how to use it and learning how to use 3D programs. I'm quite the 3D modeling newb this being my first complex organic model so it proved to be quite a challenge for me. I used 123D Creature on an iPad to model the spider with some refining done in Sculptris and 123D Design. I attempted to model it as close to actual anatomy as possible. This is the second version of the model, the original had legs that were too delicate and broke so I made several adjustments to the anatomy of the legs to help with the structure as well as some settings with the printing process.
It was printed in PLA, sanded, and followed up with several layers of spray filler with sanding in between in order to make it nice and smooth. It was then sprayed with semi-gloss black. Unfortunately it's raining too much for me to finish and get the hour glass on in time but I'll be working on that as soon as I can.
My model can be found and downloaded here http://ewm.deviantart.com/art/Realistic ... -489928101" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false;

The spider is so realistic it would scare the living hell out of me if I saw it and wasn't expecting it.
Excellent job!

Browsing Repables, I came up with a killer idea. Hopefully I can pull it off in time, I'm real bad about procrastinating...
Re: October 2014 Contest ! ! !
THATS A WRAP! Nylocke, man you just missed it! We just voted and posted the winners to our blog. Go check it out guys at http://seemecnc.com/blogs/frontpagenews ... nt-contest" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false;
1st place EWM for the 3d printed spider. GREAT job on designing and printing your own designs, and way to go getting good so fast too!
2nd place Jassper for the checkers set. Man if I coudl find more time I'd print one for the shop.
3rd place goes to HesDeadJim for the really cool Maleficent horns.
Congrats to everyone who entered, and you already know you're all winners in our book anyways. Keep those printers warmed up, we're gonna announce next months contest here shortly. Thanksgiving is coming soon, but turkeys are too boring, so we're thinking best character themed turkey, or turduken, or ???? We'll have some fun with it for sure. What would you guys like to see as next months prize? We are now shipping the DropLit kits, so maybe jimMustang was onto something. Maybe first place gets a DropLit DIY Kit?
Thanks again guys, and awesome work. For the winners, make sure you have an account on our store, and then email me (john@seem........) with your email you use on your account and i'll get the prizes sent out asap

Thanks so much! The spider was a bit creepy when it was gray but once I sprayed the black on it's creepy factor kicked in high gear. I'm looking forward to finishing it up just need to give it more time between coats due to the humidity from the rain.Eaglezsoar wrote:The spider is so realistic it would scare the living hell out of me if I saw it and wasn't expecting it.

Re: October 2014 Contest ! ! !
Thanks so much John for hosting this contest. It helped me learn a lot over the past month and I feel more confident about handling the printer by myself. Had to have my guy guide me along for awhile on how the settings and stuff work until I felt comfortable using the printer and the slicer program. We've been having so much fun with our printer, I believe the former owner named it Casper and we've stuck with the name. I'll find out what email address we are using for the store a bit later today.
Congrats to the other two winners
