OFFSETS OFF BY TOO MUCH _ TRYING AGAIN

Post by 626Pilot »

This printer seems to go out of calibration about once every 20 or so printing hours. When I try to recalibrate it, I get this, over and over, with no resolution after five minutes of doing exactly the same step:

Clearing the EEPROM doesn't fix this, nor does flipping the plate over and letting it tap the glass directly. What should I do? They sell this printer with auto-calibration, and I need it to work as advertised.

Have you contacted support about it?

Sent them an email with a link to this thread. Let's see what they say.

So, did they ever come up with a solution?

I finally installed dev firmware, version 20161123, with better calibration results.

A few business days after I sent the email, they wrote back that it sounded like loose stepper pulleys. None were actually loose, although there was one grub screw that could stand some tightening down, so I did that. (There are two per pulley, and its neighbor wasn't loose at all.) It did calibrate after I did that, but it still has this issue where the nozzle is too high near the Z tower and too low on the opposite side of the bed. I told them that, sent a photo of the first layer results, and haven't heard back yet.

Repetier does have planar correction (3-point test, like shimming) and regular grid-based depth-mapping. Maybe one of those features should be used in the calibration commands.

They wrote back that there's some newer firmware that handles edge cases like mine. They think they'll release on Friday.

Our Eris also started doing this. Upon inspection it appears that one of the black endstop triggers on the Z tower belt had somehow shifted 5-6 mm. By moving that back to be more in line with the X and Y towers I was able to get the firmware to successfully autocalibrate and print.

626Pilot, have you tried the new OctoPrint plugin or the calibration page on your Eris yet?
