ERIS is almost alive guys!

Post by johnoly99 »

So some of you may know, we're headed to CES this year (ok, so in about two weeks! ) and we have been working on something to show off there. Some of you may also have seen the little drops here and there of it, but here it is, The ERIS. I'll say that Steve and JJ are both hard at it finishing up the design and tooling up for production of the injection molded parts, and we're on the home stretch. Quick specs for you guys to ponder, $599 - 5" dia 6" tall build area - non-PEEK hotend - no LCD, entry level but upgradeable in the future - primarily PLA, but will be capable of others as well, may need to roll your own heated beds, but TGlase and PLA are no probs. - Glass build surface for flatness - Single fan for hotend/part cooling (sneaky ductwork in the molds :) ) Oh, and made by us, all right here in the corn fields! Here's a few pics/renders for now.

Very cool! Can I assume that the plan is for these to come pre-assembled and ready to print OOTB?

Looking good!

ooohh my... 2 weeks to CES and you guys are just finishing drawings and starting to build molds, your just a bit insane. ;)
But I know you guys will pull it off, you always do.
Nothing like a deadline to move Steve along, eh?

I just might stop in tomorrow if I can slip away from the shop.

I did a CES show where I was still writing code in a Las Vegas hotel room for a SEGA project I got drafted onto at the last minute.

I took some pictures of it at an expo that we both attended a couple weeks back. It's a good looking machine, here's one of the two prototypes.

It still has some printed parts on it, so I suspect that PartDaddy is still hard at work making molds.

Wild guess but I'd say it's because PartDaddy is too enamored with his giant delta that can almost print car parts, it's difficult for him to find time to put the finishing touches on the Eris... ;)

I know that making the molds has been challenging, but I don't remember which piece was so much trouble. Steve mentioned at the MakerHive last week that they're rounding the last corner on it.

Thanks for the great pictures of the Eris. Maybe they will be completely ready at the Faire at the end of March.

Sounds like there's an official launch date!

I know Steve's been busy getting the molds finalized. I'm sure it will be nice to see his hard work payoff. The whole team has invested a lot of their time into the project, I'm looking forward to seeing it launch!

I'm surprised it's going to be unveiled near me. I'll have to stop by that weekend.
