Whip Clip Eliminator for HE280

Post by bvandiepenbos »

Some people have trouble with the whip plug un-plugging itself when printing.
One option is to print a clip to retain it like one of these http://repables.com/r/808/ http://repables.com/r/811/
I don't care for the way that looks and it still does not seem very secure.
I was really excited to find a 8-pin plug with LATCHING TABS !
A really nice clean and secure plug. It plugs into the HE280 board just like the stock one. The tabs latch into holes already there!
The only need to trim out the hole in cover a bit wider. Easy to do with a sharp hobby knife and/or small file. Take the cover off to cut out hole.
The plug latches really secure, but is easy to remove by squeezing sides of plug.
I got the plug from Glenn at the MakerHive...

I see that you have many upgrades/mods on your HE280. Do you have a thread created with a list of your upgrades? I am intrigued with what you've done

How do you remove the wires from the old clip or are you just snipping them and restriping them for the new latching tab.

I /think/ that if you stick a pin in the square holes on the connector face, it releases the wire. They will let go of the wires, but I'm not 100% sure on the technique.

Yep. A pin, small screwdriver, paperclip, etc.

That's what I thought. It worked on all my other connectors but on the one that came with the prewired whip I could not get them to release. Maybe I need to hit the gym some more and get some muscles.

Don't force anything. Insert improvised removal tool in the rectangular slots, and if the wire doesn't release, try pushing the wire in and then releasing it.
