Hot end turns off after 1st or 2nd layer
Hot end turns off after 1st or 2nd layer
My rostock Max V2 has been down for several months because of my work schedule and kids. I was installing upgrades and one of them was trying to add a magnetic LED light under the effector and I may have overstretched the thermistor wires going into my E3DV6 hot end. I'm not sure if that's the cause or the reason but the printer stops extruding after the first or second layer and the temperature still shows 195 on the printer and I checked on Matter Control for PLA and its 195 supposedly real time but obviously it cools off jams the hot end and the other extruder keeps trying to push filament. I normally do my slicing in KISS. Should i just get the new style thermistor and heater block from E3DV6 people? Any ideas to test. Ran a PID calibration with same results.
Re: Hot end turns off after 1st or 2nd layer
Sounds to me like you've got an dodgy connection on the thermistor or the heater cartridge.

My rostock Max V2 has been down for several months because of my work schedule and kids. I was installing upgrades magnetic light ring and new HD power unit and one of them was trying to add a magnetic LED light under the effector and I may have overstretched the thermistor wires going into my E3DV6 hot end. I replaced the heating cartridge and the temp sensor and I thought I was okay on a 20 mm calibration Cube but two thirds up it started behaving the same way. Adjusted temp incrementally to 220 again no filament coming out all the wiring has been checked out so I'm wondering if there's something on the board. it's not the filament new PTFE tubing fully inserted on both ends even have a heater block cover. Ran the PID test and adjusted my EEPROM numbers I just don't understand I guess I'll take an infrared sensor and read the temperature on the heater block when it happens see if it cools off. Any ideas?
Re: Hot end turns off after 1st or 2nd layer
Upgrading to the new heater block wouldn't be a bad idea. I'd also check to make sure that the thermisor isn't shorting against the heater block. It sounds like something is causing the controller to freeze with a static display.

Re: Hot end turns off after 1st or 2nd layer
Wait a minute, how is the temperature still showing 195 degrees if it has either cooled down or failed? Try disconnecting the LED lights and see if that fixes it.
