Dear All,
I created a model in Sketchup, which looks like this:
When I convert to stl and import to repetier, it looks like this:
and then when I slice it, looks wrong?
Any advice much appreciated.

You might want to try running the STL file through a program called NetFab and see if it can fix it. It's worth a try as a first step.
Re: First model issues please point me in the right directio
To me it looks like the vertical holes entering the curves on the sides are not done properly in sketchup - not manifold. If they aren't done properly in Sketchup not even netfabb will be able to fix it. But, that would be why those sides are getting f'd when you slice.
Cheers.
Cheers.

This is classic none manifold geometry.
Run your models through this online site, it's free and usually instant.
http://cloud.netfabb.com/
It may or may not be able to correct the geometry. Usually decent, but never as good as your brain and hands. You may not have created the model properly.
There are tutorials all over the net for proper modelling for 3d printing.
