Rambo need replacing?

Post by m4r1n5 »

Z axis started doing this last night.

when I ran g28 or switched with another motor, that motor did the same thing. I reuploaded new firmware, but still the same issue. While I've had it since June 6, I only have 149m of filament through it.

Also, when I connect to the printer from Repetier, is it supposed to display twice? never did it before:

Your Z stepper driver could be fried, do you have a fan on your RAMBo? I dont use the Repetier firmware, but the issue with your printer appearing to "connect twice" probably isnt supposed to be happening (obviously), and It could theoretically be a lot of things, but I dont think thats part of your Z issue...

i have the door open and a fan running to the printer. But I've also had it shut down for an hour, turned on, then tried moving it and it does the same thing. anyway to completely reset the board other than reuploading the firmware? or am I looking at another rambo?

Unfortunately it seems that you may possibly be looking at another RAMBo, unless you or someone you know can solder a new stepper driver on to it, but its pretty small SMD soldering unfortunately. You could try uploading the Marlin firmware for Rostock MAX to double check, but I dont think it will make a difference....

See if it's still under warranty before you buy a new one.

I tried calling Seeme, but they havent picked up. I started playing around with it and pulled off the X & Y motors, Then ran g28...whatdoyaknow, it works. I'm assuming the problem, at this time, has something to do with the double display of the firmware. Any idea how to fix that?

Thanks, Steve. I'm kinda glad I didn't get you....this time ;-) ....I'm finding out its Repetier. For some reason its adding a second set of connections in the display when initially connected and it seems to be confusing the Z MOTOR. I couldn't delete all the programming, so I added another admin acct on my laptop and reinstalled the software. Now its responding well. I'll have to go through the whole calibration again, but it'll be faster now than the week it took me last time (like learning frigin french or something....).

Make sure you don't have the Arduino IDE open at the same time as Repetier. They will fight over the serial port and weird things will happen.

I'd check the continuity of your mosfets and all your crimped wires. Make sure nothing is loose, mine sometimes did that when the z-axis motor crimp was loose and it was fixed once i re-crimped it.
