Viotek power supply not turning on

Is there a breaker inside the viotek power supply? I turned mine on, powered up the 3 axis board, easydriver and the hot end and supply shutdown. I'm getting 115V inside and through the fuse but no fan and nothing out the DC wires. Is there anything else to look at inside the case?

There is a fuse, but other then that, your PS is probably dead. Mine died a long while ago, couldn't handle the load and stopped working.
I opened mine up to test fuse, capacitors and found nothing wrong, just won't power on.

Luckily this is a standard desktop PS, you can pickup a spare from just about anywhere online or even locally.

Same thing here. I also opened it up and found nothing wrong. Happened to have a new one here for another project (Thermaltake Brand) TR2 430W ATX and it works good.

These are really simple power supplies so if there is power on the output on the switch that goes to the windings, and the fuse is good, then something bad has happened in the windings and it's really not worth looking any further - just get another. Be careful in there - many friends have straightened their hair in the tight quarters in there!

Mine appears to have died as well. Checked Fuses etc all wiring done exactly as per the manual. Only used it a few times for testing and not even done my first print yet. Bit annoying as i've only just bought the kit. Is this an inherent problem with the PSU or Kit which needs to be addressed?

Guys, the PSU's are really a decent supply. They do have thermal and overload and short circuit protection, but in the sense that if they get a short, they kill themselves rather than electronics. Many other ATX PS's i've used over the years do that too. Unfortunately, the safety doesn't seem to allow it to shut itself off, and recover, it blows the transistors in the PSU. We're looking into a different model of PSU that doesn't just blow when there is a short, but rather has a thermal fuse to trip out when shorted, and will come back after it cools down. I would suggest double checking your hot-end wiring and make sure you don't have anything going to ground on the power side of the resistors. As for a replacement, pretty much any ol' ATX psu with around 200w is sufficient until you get into a heated bed.

Mine had a red and black wire touching, caused the power cable to heat up alot , still works though

Had another 400w supply in an old PC so I used that- pretty sure the new one has thermal cutout too. I think the problem was when I reconnected (after manually moving the steppers) the 4 axis board while the PSU was on causing a surge. All works fine now- just have to remember to power down if I'm disconnecting the board!

ps whats the best material to use on a non-heated bed to get the abs to stick?- would acrylic sheet be suitable?

Thin acrylic works escellent on smaller size prints with ABS on an unheated bed. We sell some acrylic 6x6 beds with our logo lasered, they work great, but if you can find thin (1/6"-3/32") it's more flexible, and easier to pop the parts off after they cool

Just to add a point of reference wrt the power supply quitting. Mine blew or whatever when I switched on a load on the output side of the PSU. Not sure it the units are designed to be used that way.
