Anyone who can build a machine like that is certainly not an idiot.
Good job building her!

This is awesome! I'm glad to see someone else building a big delta. It makes me feel better about my own project. I have a running forum over on the Delta Robot 3D Printers Google group discussing the big delta that I'm building if you're interested in taking a look.

https://groups.google.com/forum/#!topic ... ByVTaedwnQ

My build is similar to yours in many aspects, and it sounds like we want to do many similar things with it.

I have a couple of questions that I've been struggling with. First, how did you spec what size magnets to use for the mag arms? Is there a tool available for calculating the forces in the joints and arms to help with this, or did you have to just guestimate? Secondly, how did you go about aligning such a large frame?

N52 strongest i could find from K&J http://www.kjmagnetics.com/
how did you go about aligning such a large frame?
so i used 1500mm 20x40mm vslot for my vertical linear rails, when i build my 60deg horizontal brackets i placed them all at the base on top of each other. i then tightened the horizontal extrusions so they were all the same lengths and slid them up the rails in place. i used the base as a reference point assuming the verticals were all perpendicular to the base. using gene's method of a cut measuring stick i spaced each triangle a set distance from the one below it and tightened. see attached pic

got some more time in on this project this weekend..

I converted everything to a 24v supply.

looks like i'm getting close to ready to attach a extruder and spit out some plastic.

These are fun to watch. Did you make those toolpaths with LinuxCNC?

the butterfly was in linuxcnc already, that Intel skull i drew in solidworks over a 2d image i pulled from google, then exported as .dxf and used cambam tool to do paths. linuxcnc is a whole other beast compared to reprap stuff.. im having to learn alot through trial and error. including converting reprap gcode to real gcode when i get to putting an extruder on this guy.

This is amazing! 300mm wide circle and no Z issues at all! I like how the structure is braced. I hope you'll print some huge stuff with this and show it off!

Ive done some upgrades with the carriages, arms, and effector. I have reversed the traxxas balls onto the arms, and placed the magnets inside the carriage and effector plates.

here is my setup:

doing some .1mm layers:

printing at 3600.0 mm/min x 1.5 feedrate increase:

That is impressive.

I also noticed that you have been kicked out of the house and in to the garage :)

Bubba chose to work out in the garage to eliminate the proverbial NAG - NAG - NAG!
Now he has a reason to heat the garage!

Hi Bubba.

Is there any possibility to get this big printer from you, or some shemes / plans to rebuilt it myself, I would pay for them.
Would be perfect to have this machine for my lifesized busts and sculptures.

Really dont want to hook up this thread with my pics, so this is just an example for the size which I`m printing :

As you can see, even with the Rostock I have to print the bust in parts :(
Your machine could finish this mess for all times !

Bye

Your Order Contains:
3 x Smooth Idler Pulley Kit
6 x V-Slot 20 x 20mm
(Length: 1000mm)
3 x V-Slot 20 x 40mm
(Length: 1500mm)
3 x GT2 (2mm) Aluminum Timing Pulley - 20
32 x GT2 (2mm) Timing Belt
3 x Micro Limit Switch
12 x OpenBuilds Solid V Wheel Kit

this is my order from http://openbuildspartstore.com/

using those extrusion dimensions i just made some 120deg mounts for the cross members. being sure to account for mounting the nema17s and idle bearings at the top.

i grabbed some nema17x4 and a bbb+bebopr for the electronics
carbon fiber arrow shafts with aluminum tip inserts, traxxas ball ends, and n52 magnets

the bed is mic-6 alum, 16 3/4 inch diameter from ebay with a 16in mirror from local hobby shop.

i did add a onyx heated bed just because i hate dealing with blue painters tape but its not needed

Thanks for reviving this thread - the last post was from before I registered, so I'd never have seen it otherwise. This is a cool project!
