Rudder pedal...
Rudder pedal...
It's a two part casting - here's the main portion:

Printed with 2+ year old Sliver ABS @ 220C with an 80C bed. No warp, no split. Ambient was about 63F.
My only complaint was the support printed by Kisslicer was insufficient for one spot. It's also pretty sporadic and "rotted". Not sure why.

hairspray or glue stick on glass?
I actually have had decent results with the newest Slic3r generated support.

Re: Rudder pedal...
I've got one of those electronics rulers. Works better than a banana for scale
Re: Rudder pedal...
Glue stick. I haven't touched Slic3r in a long time. My go-to has been Kisslicer (old version) and MatterSlice.
The ruler was an after thought.

Looks good Gene and I'd like to see a picture of the part attached and in use.

There's no way in hell I'd trust a printed rudder pedal. Now once it's molded and cast in aluminum, that'd be cool.

Re: Rudder pedal...
That won't ever be cast - at least not by me. Even if I printed it at 100%, it would be too structurally weak to leave in plastic. I'm going to create a hybrid design that uses 12mm Baltic Birch for the pedal and ABS printed heel caps.

Re: Rudder pedal...
I think the Warbirds guys would be going spastic if you had this going in a booth in the Warbirds area at Oshkosh. They'd be knocking themselves out trying to guess what it was where it goes.
Re: Rudder pedal...
It's a rudder pedal for a Bf-109K4.
I'm going to be printing a couple of bellcranks for the pitch control system later in the week.

Re: Rudder pedal...
You can never have too much structural integrity in an airplane part. I had a toe brake shear off once. Fortunately, I was just on a taxiway. If I had been trying to slow the airplane after landing and that happened, it could have lead to a loss of control. Every now and then I'd hear about some pilot somebody knew that died. One or two were taking off in IFR and their gyro spun out, and they didn't have a backup - they crashed in a graveyard. I knew a mechanic who worked out of a wheelchair because a skydiving plane he was in had an engine go out in a critical moment of the takeoff phase. The pilot stomped on the rudder to correct - but he used the wrong pedal, and that was it. They say 80% of the time it's the pilot's fault, but that last 20% isn't for nothing.

Re: Rudder pedal...
I think gene won't have to worry if this one breaks. He could just jump out of the cockpit at 10,000 feet without a scratch on him.
