MAX v1 Firmware and PEEK fan question

Post by DLS3141 »

First of all, thanks to everyone who has helped me out before and to anyone who does so with this latest issue.

So I got my printer up and running, printed the PEEK and layer fan shrouds, installed the fans, wired them to the Rambo...and then discovered that the PEEK fan is not being switched on. I verified that the fan works when 12VDC is applied to the wires that connect to the board. I double checked the polarity of the connection and that the Layer fan was plugged into the "Fan 0" terminal and the PEEK fan into the "Heat 1" terminal as shown in the instruction manual....still nothing, even when the hot end was over 50C.

Then I remembered that my Rambo has firmware v0.8 and seeing that v 0.91 is the latest. So I was wondering if that might be the cause of the problem and a firmware update is in order. (I'm sure there may be other reasons to upgrade the firmware too). Is the firmware the cause of my fan issue? Is there a workaround that avoids the upgrade or is the upgrade the best way to fix this? Should I upgrade firmware anyway?

I think you're on the right track. Sounds like the wiring is right, try the new firmware.

Did you verify with a meter that the correct wires are going to the correct fans? There was recently someone on the forum who inadvertently swapped the black (negative) wires of the two fans causing a similar issue.

Yes. I believe I read the same thread earlier and I know my own tendency to make the same kind of errors so I checked twice and I probably will again. My tendency to color code and label wires obsessively pays off all the time

I updated to the new firmware and that resolved the issue.

Thanks everyone.
