Y tower not calibrating.

Post by Ziggey »

So here is the situation. I moved, but before I moved I would like to let you know that I was getting beautiful prints and I couldn't have been happier :D! Then I moved I put my printer in the car a laid it on its side, because its so big.... I put some towels on the inside so nothing would get banged around. or if something magically fell on my printer, it wouldn't hit my hotend and break it. So I get it to my new house and one of the metal clips off the endstop switches broke off( Y Tower) :(. I ordered a new one from where seeme cnc recommended. installed it and figuring it should get calibrated from the moved I did that. Then I went to print. And something weird happened. Around the X tower was fairly good for the first layer but when it started to rise when it went to the Y tower. From the Y tower to the X tower it lowered again but its still to high.

Here is how high it is on the towers:
Z - good, little resistance on paper. Prints fine there.
Y - 1/4 inch easy if not a little more
X - About 3 mm, Not low enough to print correctly.
X-Z touches my PEI sheet. (to low)

I have tried to calibrate automatically and manually( using the screws) and these methods do not help lower the Y axis. I had the Y screw one turn from being out and it didn't help....
Any suggestions??
Thank you,
ZIG

Something may have come loose or may be too tight and you may be missing steps.

Switch power off, move effector, see if there is amy resistance.

Move carriages individually. They should all be the same.

Switch power on. Do homing (so the motors lock) and try to jiggle the effector to get it to move. Try to move the carriages individually.

do not brake the printer while doing these. :)
When on mobile I am brief and may be perceived as an arsl.

Ok. So it's still not working. Not sure what to try next. I tried to recalibrate it and no dice there(used the auto calibrate). Nothing jiggled when the motors locked. none of the cheapskates are to tight or to loose. They all slide very well, I looked at all of them to make sure the bearings didn't stop while moving. I made sure my towers didn't come loose and move up or down. They all seem to be in place. I tried to set a new Z height and that didn't work either.

I noticed that while calibrating that my Y tower wouldn't go as low as my other towers. The X and Z tower both grasped the paper, but they Y tower wouldn't go low enough to grasp the paper.
Another interesting thing that I noticed was that after I calibrated it for the third time I used the macros to see how far away from the bed it was. Then I checked the Z Position height. On my X Tower it was 3.8mm on my Y it was -10.something. I'm not sure if that is usefull or not, but I figured I would put it in there.

Is there any chance that it is a software issue and I can just reload my soft ware and modify my settings???
I did check to see if the bed is level and it is.

Any help would be nice,
Thank you,

Check to make sure that the wires are connected to the NO and not the NC terminals on the new limit switch.

Try the M119 command and see if the y-axis has the limit switched engaged. Try it both ways, open and with you holding the switch closed. Compare those results with the X and Z tower.
