KISSlicer speed limit ? (SOLVED)

Post by c'Lever1 »

Used KISSLicer for several months and love it...use nothing else.

Suddenly, it decides it will not allow printing at speeds above about 17mm/s. I can set it for any speed I like, but when the slice is done, the time to print works out to a maximum or 17mm/s every time. I can go slower, just not any faster.

Tried Slic3r at 80mm/s and everything works fine (for Slic3r) so it's seems specific to KISSlicer. Changed extrusion width, height, infill, resolution, speed settings (under "Printer") temps....always get 17mm/s regardless of what speed it's set to.
I am trying to print faster now that I have a Volcano set up and working fine, just can't get the speed to increase.

.EDIT >> UPDATE - turns out that changes in layer height and/or extrusion width will in fact allow for more or less "feedrate". I have been able to raise [head mm/s] and "Fxxxx" from 17.2 to as high as 42.5mm/s (read from G-Code); however, it seems inconsistent and unpredictable. Lower width/height (less than 1 and 0.6) seems to help, but not always...there seems to be some kind of hidden ratio involved, like "sweet spots". Another clue (maybe) is that non-print speeds seem unaffected. They run at the speeds you have set in "Printer" and based on the slider

Arduino 1.0.5-R2
Rostock MAX V2
E3D Volcano
what else....

Forgot, it's KISSlicer PRO v1.5 2.20 Win64

Again, I've been using it for months without issue

THE SOLUTION IS THAT THERE IS A SETTING IN KISSLICER>MATERIALS>FLOW ADJUST>MAX [mm^3/S] THAT IS SET TO 10 THEREBY LIMITING THE AMOUNT OF EXTRUSION PER SECOND. THE E3D FOLKS SAY YOU CAN PRINT IN HALF THE TIME USING A VOLCANO, SO I DOUBLED THE MM3^S/SEC AND SAW A SIGNIFICANT INCREASE IN AVAILABLE FEEDRATE. NOT DOUBLE THE FEEDRATE, BUT A JUMP FROM ABOUT 17.5 TO SOMETHING APPROACHING 25. SUBSEQUENT EXPERIMENT SUPPORTS THIS SETTINGS CHANGE WITH SIMILAR INCREASES.
I HAVE NO IDEA (AND WOULD BE ASTONISHED, GIVEN ALL THE ADVISE THIS POST RECIEVED) IF ANYONE HERE KNOWS HOW MUCH IS TOO MUCH FLOW PER SECOND. I HAVE BEEN PRINTING WITH COLORFABB XT WHICH TENDS TO BLOB A LITTLE (ESPECIALLY WHEN RUN IT UP TO 45MM/S FEED...NO SURPRISE THERE) SO IT'S HARD TO TELL WHEN SURFACE QUALITY GETS LOST WITH MORE FORGIVING MATERIALS, BUT I HAVE RUN IT UP TO 60mm^2/S WITHOUT ANY BITCHING FROM A STOCK EZ-STRUDER (TAKES MUCH HIGHER TEMPS, AGAIN NO SURPRISE).

IT WOULD BE WONDERFUL TO LEARN WHAT QUALITY OTHERS CAN OBTAIN WITH PLA OR PLA/PHA. I DON'T PRINT WITH ABS, BUT RESULTS THERE WOULD ALSO BE INFORMATIVE.

DON'T WORRY, I AM NOT HOLDING MY BREATH............
