Is there any way to have different profiles where the hotend height is different? My replacement heating element arrived today as well as volcano parts for my V6. I was hoping I would be possible to create profiles with different heights for my hot end. Does anyone know a slicer that can do this? The only way i know to calibrate this is using mattercontrol using the eeprom settings the way the seemecnc manual advises. Even swapping out my glass beds causes issues since they are about .5mm different in thickness.
It would be nice if i could have profiles for the following:
FIlament Profiles (ABS closer?, PLA Farther?)
Bed Profiles(If i had to chose one it would be this)
Hot End profiles(Switching from Volcano to V6 or even using AirStruder causes recalibration to to different heights and weights)
Profiles with different height?

Re: Profiles with different height?
bunny,
profiles for filaments can be created in most slicers, they can include all the parameters, including hotend temp, bed temp, filament diameter and nozzle diameter. you can even include extruder speeds, first layer height and raft no raft option. the only thing you Cant do is have the machine have an automatic Z zero for whatever nozzle you put on, but that is a quick setting, maybe 2 minutes at the most. everything else you want is already available to you in most slicers.

Change nozzle, reset Z height, print.

Re: Profiles with different height?
I currently use slic3r so i know it can do all the basic things relating to my filament. For the z height I'm not expecting anything automatic. I would define a new z height based on my default. So If I was calibrated to print on straight glass but wanted to print to tape for this one print. I could add .25mm or whatever i had measured previously as my perfect first layer height for that config. So I could have a profile that just says start .25mm higher for this print. Does that make sense?stonewater wrote:bunny,

Could you elaborate? Are you referring to resetting my Z height using the LCD? Doesn't this still require me to do calibration again?geneb wrote:Change nozzle, reset Z height, print.

Re: Profiles with different height?
you do not need to recalibrate the entire machine, if you are changing hot ends then Z height is ALL you need to do. yes with the lcd screen and potentiometer. I often adjust mine a bit depending upon the filament I am using just to get a better first layer. their is a Z offset you can do in some slicers, that adds to the Z zero at the start of a print, that may work for you...

Re: Profiles with different height?
Slic3r has a Z offset field on the Printer Settings tab. Whether you want to build different profiles for that or just reset it when you change nozzles is up to you.
I'd fear hard nozzle crashes with this strategy, though. My recommendation, too, would be to reset your Z height.

Re: Profiles with different height?
So this brought back an issue. If i adjust the Z height through the firmware sometimes it nozzle smashes into the heating bed when i start the print. I tried writing my changes to the eeprom to see if that fixes it and it made it worse by making my z position like 700mm when homed it should be around 360mm. Has anyone else had this happen when resetting their z position? If you would prefer i create a new post under troubleshooting just let me know and i will.
