Slicing issues

Post by psharifi »

I have a couple STL files that I have been trying to print from thingiverse. FIrst, the objects look very small, so I edit the measurements to make it a decent size. I go to print and then the printer (Rockstock MAX V2) just shoots out in a weird direction or is a whole inch away from the bed. I know the printer is fine, because when I run the tower calibration it moves perfectly and is the correct distance from the bed. Any ideas on how I can get around this issue?

Some of the files from thingiverse can be a bit awkward.

I tried to print a lightsaber, and when i opened it up in mattercontrol it was tiny. About the size of a matchstick. I tried to scale it with no joy, it did not scale up, it looked like a ship rather than a lightsaber.

I suppose there could be an artifact in the model, and when you scale it up, it puts a little spec or piece outside of the rostock bed that your printer tries to print.

Have a look in preview mode where you can see the printers moves. I bet the awkwardness will showup. You could also try running the stl through some checking software. I have not used one myself but the word Netfab ?? comes to mind.
When on mobile I am brief and may be perceived as an arsl.

There could also be a "rogue" face or edge in the model that's way out there and doesn't really have anything to do with the shape.

What does the GCode preview look like in your slicer?

What exactly would I be looking for in the gcode?
