Changing Z-Height has no effect? **SOLVED**

Post by dajay23D »

Changing z-height has no effect? I thought I got this down, but things changed when I upgraded to the E3D V6 and carbon arms... :? It may just be a coincidence, but after the upgrade, I can't seem to get my z height correct. I'm using Kisslicer 1.5 beta w/ MatterControl. The nozzle doesn't lower any regardless of me adjusting the z height. I did it multiple times w/ different thicknesses ranging from .003" - .009" feeler gauges. Every time the print starts, the nozzle goes to the same spot, not low enough. My only remedy is to set a negative Z offset in Kisslicer. But, I never had to do that before. I tried to recalibrate X, Y, Z..nothing. I'm printing 75mm x .2mm height discs for this test. Any ideas?

Are you forgetting the part where you have to choose the menu item that sets the zero point after you've used the knob to reach it?

Ok. I had to ask. :)

After you set your Z height, do a G0 Z0 F3500. Does the nozzle stop where you set your z height?

You might also need to click home before setting the Z-Height.

Yea, anything's possible. ;) Well, i tried your gcode and it does go exactly where i set the Z height, @ .004" I homed it multiple times..etc. I also tried different variables, extrusion rate, extrusion width and infill extrusion width...nothing worked. But oddly, there was a point where everything did worked, but I thought my z height was too low, so I readjusted it and now it's consistently no affect.... :? Should've left it alone!
Maybe it's not the Z height?! i'll try another slicer to see if its the same thing.

If after the Z0 it goes where you want it, it's not your Z height. You might have something mis-configured in your slicer.

I set my z height to .001", almost touching glass! and its printing w/out the Z offset. I'll just have to keep calibrating it and see if it changes. Thanks for everyone's comments/help. Still not quite sure what's going on. I exaggerated the z height really high and it did make a difference. But for some reason, when i get lower, doesn't do much. Or not like before. Maybe i'll try reinstalling KISS or run an older beta and see what happens.

Try MatterSlice and see how that works.

I believe I've solved the issue. I used a diff slicer and didn't have the issue. I went back to KISS and changed something I didn't think would affect anything, but sure enough, it did. It's under the SUPPORT tab, flow gain. I thought flow gain would affect support features only, but it affected the rate of extrusion. Soon as I put it back to 1, my one layer disc beads connect. I was hoping setting that # would not make the supports stick so much.... :?
