Can we please have a 0.4mm nozzle made by SeeMeCNC?

Post by Agisis »

You can buy a 0.35mm, 0.5mm, and 0.7mm nozzle from SeemeCnc. I have done some work printing with wood filament but would like to achieve the finer detail from a smaller nozzle size. 0.35mm turns out to be a wee bit too small and the grit in the wood filament can clog it up (and then the wood burns inside the chamber and attaches to the side...a screw driver can be used to knock it out). I was thinking that a 0.4mm nozzle might be just big enough to prevent the clogs, yet give the much finer detail I am seeking that I cannot get from a 0.5mm.

0.4mm appears to be a common hot end size that is readily available on Amazon/Ebay, but I cannot find one that seems to match the threads and shape of the SeeMeCNC ones and I won't want to gamble on a tip I cannot use.

Does SeeMeCNC have any plans to produce a 0.4mm nozzle so we can have an inbetween option from 0.35mm to 0.5mm? I would certainly buy one if you did I think others might as well.

I'd email them and ask. :)

They used to sell blanks, but back pressure isn't just a function of nozzle diameter, just because someone can print it with a 0.4mm E3D nozzle, doesn't mean it could be printed with a 0.4mm SeeMe nozzle. The length of the extruder orifice matters.

Have you considered trying to drill a 0.35mm nozzle to 0.4mm?

Eric, that's a pretty good idea. I don't know how to properly drill a blank and have no interest in spending my time doing that when I could be printing....but drilling out a 0.35mm to a 0.4mm may be a heck of a lot easier since it effectively is a pilot hole. I found some 0.4mm drill bits on Ebay I might look into. Good call. Still, would be nice for SeeMeCNC to sell them. I'm sure they would be popular.

Shoot some WD40 in there while you drill, or maybe some tap & die oil. Someone who knows about machining could tell you the best stuff to use - just don't drill it dry.

I can confirm that 0.4mm is fine with SainSmart wood filament. I printed a big lampshade that took hours and hours, and it never jammed.

Brass will be fine dry actually. It grabs easily. You will be better off with a reamer than a drill.

If the shank is small enough, pull it through rather than push.

It's only .002" different. You might just need higher temps.
