Any FPV Drone guys here?
So I just ordered my first drone/multirotor. Its the the ever popular ZMR250. Anybody else on here mess around with these?

Re: Any FPV Drone guys here?
I would venture the proprietors are, since they have a SeeMeFPV fork of the webstore.
I impulse-bought a Syma X5C a while back. Then I thought I'd try FPV and picked up an X5SW, but despite the fact that it appeared to be a generally similar camera other than the real-time FPV capability, its camera was severely underwhelming even in comparison to its little brother.
So, as any rational person with a 3D printer would do, I picked up an 808 #26 and printed a mount for it. That loses the real-time FPV capability and the control of selectively taking specific stills and video (and the X5SW will only lift it for the first 3 minutes or so of a fresh battery), but it's by far the best-quality aerial video platform I have.

Re: Any FPV Drone guys here?
I'm a wannabe drone guy. I've built a 450 with printed parts, and have the parts for a 250 sitting around waiting on motivation. Also have some goggles and video stuff. Hopefully that's in the cards this summer.
Have you raced or flown before, or is this your first go at it as well?

Re: Any FPV Drone guys here?
I have only flown "toy" grade drones. I have quite a bit of experience with short course trucks though. These amazing FPV videos I see all over the interweb is why I want get into it.Jimustanguitar wrote:I'm a wannabe drone guy. No fpv, but I've flown quads before. Waiting on a drone from kick-starter, should get it this summer sometime. Current quad tried to drill for oil, so I haven't flown in a year.

Re: Any FPV Drone guys here?
We can rebuild it. We have the technology. Perhaps an Inconel frame, with carbide props? Should make it a good bit more than 4 inches like that.barry99705 wrote:'Bout 4 inches.

Re: Any FPV Drone guys here?
I'd have to replace the radio, since it's still somewhere out in the field, it detached from the quad and hit a prop. Then I'd have to replace the control board, cause this one is a piece of shit. Never did fly right.

sadly we have to deduct points from that crash as one prop blade remained attached... try to do a more through job next time
Re: Any FPV Drone guys here?
I've built a ZMR 250, and have moved on to lighter/higher performance drones since then.
The ZMR is OK as a beginner's platform, but at over 500 grams fully loaded, you're never going to challenge the top guys around a racetrack. It's reasonably durable though.
Couple of tips:
1) Support your FPV antenna with a cable tie to support the coax, don't just leave the SMA connector to do all the work. That's a very quick way to destroy your VTx in a crash.
2) Use nylon bolts to hold the arms on, in a crash the nylon bolts break instead of your carbon fibre arms.

If anyone decides they want to try their hand at frame design or wants a custom frame, hit me up at 713maker.com or PM me here. I have been doing custom drone design and milling frames for a number of racers both locally and out of state. I now produce my own epoxy resin vacuum infused carbon fiber panels in both standard carbon fiber weaves and hybrid fabrics like in the picture

I should get points for that though. I had to unscrew it from the ground!Windshadow wrote:sadly we have to deduct points from that crash as one prop blade remained attached... try to do a more through job next time

Re: Any FPV Drone guys here?
I have a DRQ-250 that I fly FPV. I also have a Blade 350QX-v2, a Brocopter Y3 (3D printed), Blade 150qx which is also FPV, and I'm in the process of printing and building a DJI Inspired V3...
I haven't flown much as of lately, been really into the 3d printing and life changes!
If you have any questions...ask away...

Re: Any FPV Drone guys here?
I fly an Emax Nighthawk 280 Pro, and have a couple of Hubsans that I can practice with inside. Just recently got a pair of Fatshark Dominator V3s, and they are amazing. I can get video from both the Nighthawk and the Hubsan 107D - so getting lots of FPV practice in!

Re: Any FPV Drone guys here?
There are nights I only get 3-4 hours of sleep. I do most of my design work late at night and try to mill early in the mornings. These days were are lucky enough to stay very busy. We are working hard to have some great new products in time for the Detroit MakerFaire. If I can get my drone guys to give me so free time we will get some new prototypes out shortly for new mounts and a few new Rostock products. The new mill is online at last and our turnaround times should drop considerably in about a week or so for all our products. But between milling, 3d printing and making carbon fiber panels... Sleep often falls a distance forth it seems.Eaglezsoar wrote:Wow! I am impressed!
