I have gotten most of the stuff working. Or I had. I found one fan was on the wrong header (Always on rather than PWM for the layer fan.). So I shut it down to change them, and it would not connect when I rebooted it. Of note to me is that the LED below PWM header 1 was on prior to me connecting a fan there, remained on while it was connected, and now lags when shutting down. The paneldue will not connect anymore, and the processor is getting very hot. It does not respond to USB, and windows states it malfunctioned.

It may be that the fan shorted when I pulled on the wire more to connect it to the header, as it was farther away and they run through the extrusions. DC42, do you have any comment on what shorting a fan would do to the duet?

I really hope I haven't cooked the thing, as this would be my second controller down, and this one with no printing on it. Is there repair or warranty service on the boards? I haven't heard of anyone else having similar troubles, so I don't know anything about it.

There also doesn't appear to be visible damage to the board. I don't see any fuses, nor are any mentioned in the documentation that I've seen. That's a feature I'd love to see on the duet NG.

I'd appreciate any help greatly.

I wished I had an idea of what it could be that is causing the issues. The only time I had trouble connecting was when my cable were disconnected or the SD card was not fully inserted. When I did have trouble with my board, they were awesome at replacing.

Interesting - I ordered a duet/paneldue combination from Filastruder, and my paneldue won't reliably connect to the duet. Everything else works, and I can send job from the web interface. Printing away and loving it. But no dice on the paneldue. I'm still trying to determine the cause. I was planning on reflashing the paneldue firmware to see if that helps.

I had similar trouble with the most recent version of the PanelDue firmware and am still using the prior version. As well, if the baud rate does not match it will not connect or function.

Having looked at things, I have determined that the board is probably toast, and another one was duly ordered. Very frustrating, and rather expensive. But such is life. This next time, I shall be making up adapter cables to connect the original wiring harness to the Duet, and I have ordered resetable fuses of the appropriate size to go with them. For those not familiar with them, resetable fuses are really cool. They are almost like circuit breakers, but are entirely integrated, and self reset when all current is removed, but reduce current flow to just a trickle when they trip (it doesn't shut it off entirely), and are potentially very good for USB applications. I decided to go with 1.1A for the fans (It leaves me plenty of headroom), and 4A for the hotend, with 14A for the bed. They are really cheap too, at 54 cents for the 14A fuse. and around 25 for the 4A. I am given to understand they are bulky though. Perhaps that's why they aren't standard on boards like the Duet (Also, adding ~1.25 in BOM costs would increase the sale price by more than that)
