I can't even get into the PS area to rout wire to electronics bay. I have bundled all the unused wires but they still take up the bay. Is there any reason I can't just cut them off (being careful no bare wires touch the metal case)?

You can certainly cut off the excess wires, making sure that they are truly excess. As you indicated the exposed cut end has a risk of shorting to the case.
I would open the power supply case and cut them off internally as close to the power supply printed circuit board as possible. Less chance of shorting and
looks much better than a bunch of unused wires sticking out.

Yes, If I had done this before building the unit, but since I had never done this before, I didn't know what to cut. At this stage, I think I have used all the ones I need and I am afraid to undo those Nylon screws again.

BTW, I have used all the yellow and black wires from the large connector, and used the wires for the power switch. I don't see in the instructions that I am going to use any thing else.

if you do clip them, a short section of shrink tubing over the ends will protect from shorts. Heat the end of the tube and press together with pliers to make a closed seal.

I would leave one or two pairs of power wires intact in case you want to expand later. For example: add a fan to cool the PEEK section of the extruder.

Especially a couple of the 5 volt wires. There are lots of 5 volt fans and LEDs out there so it is handy to have.

If you haven't seen my build log already, I slightly modded it, showed pictures of it. If you decide to cut these wires be sure to leave the orange wire that is attached to the brown wire connected. It is connected via the large 20 pin connector (two wires to one pin) Or your power supply wont turn on. edit: may not give you needed voltage. had to search this. http://web2.murraystate.edu/andy.batts/ ... _GUIDE.HTM

I completely removed all the orange 3.3v wires, since I had no use for them and internally keep them connected. there a pic in my build log.

Hm, I don't have a connection there, but it is working..

You might find without the sense wire connected which is what the brown wire is it seems to work, but under load it doesn't deliver the correct voltage.

Grey is an output, just indicates that the PSU has had time for the voltage to be "stable".
Purple is 5V but it's supplied even if the power is "off".

I ended up shoving all the wires to the right of the power supply, behind the stepper motor.

Didn't want to ruin a perfectly good computer power supply.

I'm using the gray wire as the positive lead on an led indicator (led comes on when power is switched on) and the purple wire as the positive lead for a standby power indicator.(stays lighted as long as the ac cord is plugged in)

here's an example of one that I modded A while ago for a bench top power supply. Same concept

Sure no, but it would be cheaper not to connect it to 3.3V, so I would assume it's done for a reason.

OK! I think I found the brown wire from the original harness (it's smaller diameter than the others) and any of the orange wires (they are all 3.3v, right) and I will try to connect them.

Did it, although they were very short.
