Rambo Driver

I haven't gotten to play with it all after reaching this point, but I know for sure in the device manager 25000 was not a selectable option for the bit rate and making. So while I could 'Connect' with Repetier-Host, it did not successfully connect and get a firmware readout.

I just needed to check before I start in on this again, am I having a braindead moment that I missed on installing the driver or is this signifying something bigger?

Oh, and only the USB LED was lit on the RAMBO board although I did check with a multimeter that the input powers were 12v.

Which platform? On a Mac, I can only use 115,200.

Windows 8 PC. I did have a USB 3.0 extension cord that may have played a role, I know some things really hate usb extension cords. Although this would be the first to not play nice with the 3.0 cords I've used.

Setting the baud rate in the device manager has no effect whatsoever with applications that use the port.

Using Windows 8, you had to have installed the signed device driver - can you post a screenshot of your device tree with the RAMBo leaf expanded?

Also, I'd strongly recommend you get Classic Shell if you plan to continue to use Windows 8. It's a free, open source package that puts back all the stuff that MS in their infinite stupidity, tore out of Windows 8.

I'll get a screenshot up when I get a chance. Off the top of my head the rambo was COM3 and repetier's connect/disconnect button would make it appear like it connected, but it never spewed out the firmware info or took a command. Only thing of note I could think of was I thought it was odd that 25000 rate wasn't in the list in the driver portion but was in repetier, so I was curious if this was a sign I missed something obvious.

I did see in another thread that removing all the plugs resolved a similar issue and at let them track down the issue to a bad connection (endstop I think it was) and I have yet to try that step. I think 4-8 diagnostic LEDs would be a wonderful addition to a rambo board that I could wish was there right now :)

I should get time for it tonight though.

Does that "5 Command Waiting" ever go away?

The default comms speed for Repetier is 250000 baud not 256000 baud as you have selected.
If that doesn't work try 115200 baud.

I noticed that right off - 250000 is what the Repetier firmware is configured to talk at out of the box.

Thanks guys, I went through each of the settings last night as my last effort (ok the last effort was seeing if firmware would even load, but still it was silent like I called it ugly). I've definitely tried the 250000 setting many times.

The orange light on the board flicks on for a split second when I hit connect, the '5 command waiting' never goes away.

I'm confident it something something beyond me simply not getting something, so I'll contact SeeMeCNC. After looking at other threads going on right now it may card may be part of a funky batch. It wouldn't surprise me, the kit I recieved had a split in it's belt gear, my hobbed roller for the extruder wasn't hobbed, and it was a few different screws short (at least compaired to the new instructions). Not that I'm complaining, they've been great every time I've even just checked into anything, I was just really hoping this was something I could simply fix myself since I'm so damn close :D

The screw counts should be ok, it's just the head choice that makes it a bit vague. :D

I've never understood why the Repetier Host software is so BAD at informing you that your serial connection isn't established -- in fact to a new user, it looks like it's connected even when it fails. You have to "know" what the symptoms are (e.g. commands always waiting) before you figure out what's actually going on.

Definitely writing up all of these connectivity things in the FAQ....

@Geneb, once again, I didn't provide enough detail, I meant in Repetier, Mac only works at 115 or lower.. thanks.

I am running Repetier-Host Mac at 250000 baud. I never had any issues, and I never tried any other speeds. That is one of the things that worked on the first try.

What version of Mac OS X are you running? I'm running 10.8.4 Mountain Lion. I don't think it matters what model of Mac you have, as 250000 baud is far below the maximum speed of USB USB host adapters are completely standardized, so there shouldn't be any compatibility issues there.

I'm not a Mac guy. :) I only own one due to a retail therapy incident. The most stressful application I run on it is xchat. I can't find any other use for it. :D

oKbob, there is always an exception.. :D

@Geneb, lol. As a former IBMer, it was difficult for me to drop Winx but I've managed and now, as an Cocoa developer (for iPhone/iPads), I don't have a choice but to use Mac. Fortunately, I've never looked back. I'm now looking into the possibility of building controls into an iOS app to drive the firmware. Not sure about that one yet since Apple keeps changing hardware interfaces.

You should investigate Delphi XE4. It allows you to to do iOS development on Windows with no hassle. My biggest issue with iOS development is having to cough up $99 to get permission to write software for a general purpose computer I own. Until they quit catering to the hipster douchebags out there, they're never going to be anything but an annoying trinket company.

No, seriously. What is wrong in your configuration that you can't run at 250K? Have you heard of any other Mac users with this problem?

Another data point: my RAMBo is pretty new. I think it's V1.1b, though I'm not sure. The USB interface has not changed, that I know of. Is your card a RAMBo? Is it running unusual firmware?

Can you talk to other Arduino-like boards at 250K? Can you talk to your RAMBo at 250K from other computers, either Mac or non-Mac?

And what version of Mac OS X are you using?

I'm running on a mac and it works fine at 250K.

Gene, may I have permission to use this, "Until they quit catering to the hipster douchebags out there, they're never going to be anything but an annoying trinket company." as a sig. It so poetically sums up my thoughts on Apple.

Heheheh. By all means! Just don't get mad at me if you get beaned in the head with a pair of black-rimmed eye glasses! :) (If they throw a latte at you, try to catch it - there's no sense in wasting good coffee! :D )
