Red ABS problem

I've head great success with my ORION printer and the included roll of white "sample" ABS that came with it.

Received a roll of cheap eBay red ABS and tried a print that really didn't come out. The layers seem to be separating and there's weird gaps/bubbles?? in the print (see attachment).

I hope it's as simple as the temperature?
I'm currently printing at 220/225 (first layer/rest) extruder temperature and 90/100 for the bed.

Should I go up or down in temperature?
Do I need to make any other adjustments?

Take this with a grain of salt, since my Max isn't printing yet :)

I wonder if you have moisture in the filament? That can cause those sorts of bubbles/pockets, as far as I have read. Was the filament in a sealed wrapper? Maybe try sticking it in a sealed up bucket of rice or some other dehydrating media...

It might just be "cheap" too :D

I agree with ToyGuy, especially the last sentence.
Most of the Ebay filament is not suitable for use in a string trimmer and certainly not for
a 3D printer. You get what you pay for applies when buying filament and the first and
last time I bought a roll from Ebay most of it ended up in the trash. Those bubbles are
because of the moisture and "crap" that is in the filament. You can try drying it in a
dehydrator, a toaster oven, etc. There are many ways to dry the filament but you
need to read up on the methods as to what to use, what temperatures, how long.
Isn't this 3D printing stuff wonderful? There is so much to learn.
But seriously, I know you are trying to save money but Ebay is not a good source
of filament. There is no saving involved with all the problems and the fact that you
end up throwing it in the trash. Stick with SeeMeCnc and other name brands.
Amazon.com can be a good source but even there you have to know what to buy.
I usually read the reviews to know what may work the best. I don't or can't buy the
high end (expensive) filament and I will not buy the low end (cheap) stuff either.

It looks to me like your extrusion temperature is a bit too cold. Try bumping the hot end up to 230/230 and see how that goes. Just take care not to exceed 240C on the hot end.

I've run a lot of MakerGear Red ABS through my Orion without any issues at all. There's a learning curve to this, that's for sure.

Will you do me a favor and print the same object at 230C and take a pic of it? If it comes out well, I'd like to use them as before/after photos for the Orion user guide.

Sorry for the delay - I got some filament stuck in my Teflon tube... But finally got it out.
Changed the temperature to 230C and printed again.

Not as good as the SeeMeCNC sample ABS, but the print came out much better!

Also tried with a black role I got from the same retailer and it looks about the same as in my first post. even at 230C.
The ABS feels brittle compared to the sample spool (after printing).
Lesson learned: I will buy better ABS in the future. This was a waste of money. Rookie mistake, I guess :(

Yeah, I agree. The 1st layer outside perimeter easily peels off and the whole thing has a "crunch" to it in a way that doesn't feel right. At this point I really think I made a big mistake with this ABS.

Try dissolving some in acetone. See if it all dissolves. If it doesn't, then it's not pure abs
