new member from Maryland

Post by columbia_u2 »

I am glad to be a new member of this forum.
I got my new Orion printer today and boy was I excited.
I have been reviewing all the online documentation and YouTube videos for its setup. I carefully unboxed and unwrapped the unit. I then opened up the quick start guide and quickly found out that it no longer applied. The menus were all different. I then opened up the manual that I had down loaded from the SEMECNC web site for the ORION but it too was incorrect. I quickly checked the forum and found a new manual. I down loaded it and started to setup my printer again. When I pressed the home selection, the carriage moved to the top bumped and ground until if finally stopped. Boy did that scare the you know what out of me. Obviously that was an issue. I took a closer look at the top of the towers and found that one of the limit switches had lost its spring arm. I looked around and found it laying on the floor. Luckily I was an electronics tech in the navy and am a ham operator now. I knew how to fix the problem. The Orion now homes properly. I set the Z height and printed out blinky with no issues. I was also able to print out the wire frame pyramid. I am including a photo of it. I am now off and running. Thanks to the forum.

Welcome to the forum!
Apparently the plastic wrap they use around the top of the Orion snags on the limit switches when you take it off. You are the second
person to report this problem. At least you were able to fix it. The Orion is a great printer and I have also purchased one so that my
Rostock Max could have a little brother. Many hours of Happy Printing to you!

The limit switch arm was off on mine when I unwrapped it. Luckily I saw it before turning it on. No biggie.
