I found it on thingiverse, but like most models there, it was full of holes and unprintable. I've fixed it up a fair bit (still some bits that need work) I'll upload that fixed version which is ready for printing

So, a guess on what it is? The exact model?

Ha, you know I challenged you to guess, but in all honesty I have no idea which model it is exactly. I think you've all got that it's a handgun, so here's the completed model.
It's a Beretta 92 I believe, but I've poor knowledge of handguns so feel free to correct me.
Incidentally I was going to change the trigger to be a 1911 style trigger to make it easier to print...

Incidentally this was my first successful 'big' PLA print with my e3d V5 using oil to lubricate the hot-end. 5 hours it took I believe

There were still some issues (in part they were model problems) as you can see by the horizonal banding, but I was happy with the test overall.

Yes, it does look very much like the Baretta 92 (M9 if US Military issue). However the disassembly lock button at the fore of the trigger guard belongs on the other side. This side should have the disasembly lever that the button unlocks, which in turn allows the slide to be removed on a real weapon.

That means either the model is mirrored and you have the lever on the wrong side too, or that the model was half-done, flipped and copied, and you have the button on both sides. It's about the only thing on the weapon that isn't ambidextrous.

Yes I did mirror and flip it. I was just doing a print test and got sick of fixing the bad model

Ooh, you should totally get the guts of an air soft gun and make it functional. That would be so cool.

When I lived overseas I was into Airsoft, and I'd love to do the same here... Unfortunately my country doesn't see Airsoft as a sport, but as a terrorist trainer and so it's completely illegal (don't get me started). 3D printing and Airsoft is a match made in heaven, but I'll just have to stick with Nerf - the colourful terrorist trainer...

I left my sorta-tricked-out Steyr AUG airsoft rifle back in Colorado... All the things I could make for that...

It's odd to hear you talk about living "overseas" when you were in Colorado!

Guess it depends upon where you are standing at the time.

What is considered a firearm over in Australia? The reason I ask is because a friend and myself are going to design a alcohol based 1/4" BB gun that runs on moonshine. We are going to call the first model "White Lightning". Most likely single shot. I am guessing if you can't even have air soft that would be banned too.

BTW, did you know that Lewis and Clark had an 800 PSI air gun? They used it to keep relations with the natives civil. Every time they met a tribe they would show them the air gun and how it was silent and you could not tell where the shooter was. They never had any real conflicts with any of the tribes.

Slappy...I'd be very careful posting images of you printing anything that even looks like a firearm if you are in Oz. Even plastic replica's maybe considered an offensive weapon even if they don't fire a projectile, especially a handgun.

You're right, I did consider the prudence of this... And opted for recklessness as you can see.

I'm not sure telling the police that it was a prop for a movie will cut it (even though that's the truth). Given the negative hype surrounding 3d printing and guns, this is just the sort of fodder the police/papers would love

Given that BB guns are also restricted I'd say it wouldn't go over well.

The policy here tends to be something along the lines of "If you have a gun, you must be planning on killing someone... And by gun I mean anything that looks like a gun including toys - yes a Nerf gun painted black is a dangerous weapon.."
