My LED Ring Upgrade

When i was a noob i really did not understand the need for lighting on the printer. But after it was classified inappropriate to live in the dining room table and had to migrate to the little junk room I had difficulty seeing my prints. So I started looking around for something to install on my printer.

So this is what i ended up with.
LED Ring
LED Ring
This is the led light that i got. It has its own driver inside.

I trimmed the lines on one side and I resoldered a male and female JST connector on the other side. This idea i stole from nightwatchman so that i can piggyback additional stuff if i need to.

I then designed these clips to hold the light in place.

This is what it looks like when assembled:

So far i am happy with it, it provides nice light on the platform. I have not printed anything with it yet.
Do you like it? Do you see any problems? Need additional info?

I like it!

The only problems I see with it are making sure the light clips don't extend farther than the nozzle. I'm sure they don't but I can't tell from the pictures if they do or not. If they do I'm sure you already found that out, lol.
Also, the ring is really wide. It seems like if you ever wanted to invert your arms for transportation they would end up hitting the ring.... With a Rostock you probably don't transport it too often to need to ever invert your arms, but still...

I've been wanting to add light to my ORION for a while now and I like the look of this so far. Where did you get the light you used for this?

I designed it so there is a 4mm celarance :)

Its easy to remove if need be. Just twist one of the tabs outwatd and pull ring out. Disconnect jst connector and off you go.

But i have never transported my printer.

I will post link when i am back home.

Interesting looking mod and I'm interested in reproducing it. Have you had a chance to test it out with a few prints yet?

Also, where did you source the LED ring from or can you provide a part number. I saw a few online but they looked a bit thicker (Angel Eyes ~.4 in thick).
Are you willing to share the .stl file for the clips?

Thanks
Eric

Sorry for the dealy.

This is what i pruchsed.

I can send the stl's and freecads aswell if you wish. You do need 3 small screws aswel but nothing else is involved. It prints fine in its current state. I do not know how long it will last with the heat of the hotend. Bu i do have a spare :)

Edit: oh you did ask for them.

I am not really proud of that part as it is a quick mockup. I have also attached the freecad file should you want to modify it for the type of screws you decide to use. The part may rotate etc so at some point i should design a better part.

I dug the part number from my receipt. And having a fresh look, the part pictured on the site is not identical to the one they sent me. I asked for the white so maybe that was different.
