Please help - Printing Height Failure New Rostock Build

Hey everyone,

New rostock user here. I finally was able to get my Rostock Max V2 put together and I'm having a bit of a problem, surprisingly, the only one as of yet. My height when it starts printing does not go below about half way down. There is nothing jamming the motors or anything and no grinding sounds as if something is stopping them from moving. See what I mean here:

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=9DVAoUANxvU

I have manually jogged the Z Axis down and it goes down smooth until about half way and stops. At first I thought it was the software, so then I tried two other software packages I used Repiter, Matter Control and I even tried Simplify3d. They all work fine as far as heating the bed and extruder, powering the motors, but they all stop at exactly the same point and start trying to build the STL. When I jog down I can get to about -300 and then I cant go lower, even though the readout says -400 it doesnt move. it's almost as if its locked at that height. It cant be software related, so my only guess is its hardware or firmware related. Any ideas anyone?

Did you calibrate your Z height and towers as well as the horizontal radius as the manual describes?

Did you calibrate Z height down to bed using the LCD panel?
Did you set New Z=0?
Did you take the new Z height number from EEPROM table and put that into each of the software packages that you were trying?

All of those steps are necessary for the software to get the extruder down to the build surface.

I am a little puzzled by the 3-stage shuffle in the video. When going from home (top) to first layer height, I would expect a smooth move.

I have solved this problem with your suggestions, I was too eager to print that I didn't keep going, thanks again!

It seems like Matter Slicer defaults(from the manual) did that to me too.

Get your machine calibrated, this is how I calibrated my towers and horizontal radius. Seems much quicker than the method described in the manual.

Calibration is in the manual - follow the WHOLE manual, to be 100% ready to print :]
