Ok, since I'm not liking the way MatterControl doesn't always retract. I decided to try some other slicers out there. Namely Cura and Craftware

I tried Cura first. Evrything seemed to work well (except that it seemed to retract even less than MatterControl) I stopped the print about 10 layers in When I noticed that the entire print was offset about 1/4" to the right.

Not liking Cura at this point, I tried Craftware. Craft retracts like I want. But after the 1st layer I noticed that everything was offset/shifted 3/16" to the right. I was going to let the print continue until I realized that the entire right side was not supported properly (ie. it was hanging over the brim)

First I thought that the glass shifted, nope it was still centered. if it did shift that much it would of been visible. Then I thought it might be a slipped drive belt, it would explain the way Cura was doing rapid moves without lifting the hot end but not Craftware.

Are your motors missing steps? Is it always offset in the same direction? Make sure your controller is getting good airflow, if it overheats you'll miss steps.

I do have a fan blowing into the Controller Chamber.

It has only done it in the last 2 prints. and yes it is in the same direction both times. The confusing part is that I never saw this before when running MatterControl, and I ran prints up to 4+ hours long. Both of these failures happened within the first hour using Cura and Craftware.

I admit that I'm not na expert on configuring these programs. So Here are My Craftware Settings...

I am Tempted to try this print with MatterControl and see what happens A job for tomorrow... getting late

Do you have any plugins enabled in Cura? Try disabling them.

No active plugins. I'm still new to Cura, so I haven't looked into any plugins yet.

The only plugins that I see are "Pause at height" & "Tweak At z 3.2" but neither are Enabled

That does look like skipping, either the motors or the belts are loose.

You may find that Cura or Craftware have different speed settings that are overwhelming the Y tower (looking at the photos) drivetrain. Or, if you're over extruding with a loose belt, the nozzle can catch on the previous layer during a move and skip a tooth on the belt.

Give KISSlicer a try. I use it most of the time.

OK, now I'm REALLY CONFUSED

This time I printed the same part with MatterControl, and Other than the supports breaking away from the bed (It's ABS) it printed perfectly (ie. no odd shifting or offsetting)

At least this time the part didn't warp to/too/tutu bad.



I have a roll of PLA to try out. Hopefully it will limit the breakaway issues I've been experiencing. of course I don't have a fan shroud for that cooling fan...

Are your acceleration/speed/jerk settings all the same? If Cura is pushing your printer harder the symptoms might not show up if it's running slower.

I would check to make sure the set screws didn't come loose for the drive pulleys.

I'd bring your travel speeds down some. If you're patient and can afford the time, 200, or even 150 mm/s is more than acceptable and does not cause missed steps for me.
