Advice please for first print

We have had zero success with the first print. I have posted a youtube video to show one of our attempts.
https://youtu.be/NjgLuhXgQrY
I would appreciate it if people with experience can comment on the video to let me know if it looks normal.

Our printer is a Rostock MAX V2. MatterControl version 1.3.0. Repetier 0.91 firmware.

We did the initial calibration tried several print attempts then we went through the calibration settings again. Still no luck. The ABS does not even start to adhere to the glass. We have tried using tape and glue stick. I am going to buy some hairspray later today and I am trying to find acetone but have not had luck with that yet.

One thing I noticed is that our PID settings are quite a bit different to what was in the EEPROM when we downloaded it.

Original settings Kp = 31.36, Ki = 2.18, Kd = 112.9.
After calibration Kp = 13.44, Ki = 0.71, Kd = 64.0.

Could this be a source of problems?

The change in pid settings is normal.

What you should check is if they reach temperature and stay there.

Abs does not really like to stick to some stuff. Pump up the bed temp.

Where are you located?

You can try to lower your Z by 0.02 mm.

Thanks for your suggestions. I am located in Bamako, Mali, Africa. I am going to go buy some hairspray and try to find acetone and then try your suggestions.

When you say pump up the bed temp, by how much? I am currently using 228 degrees on the hot end and 80 degrees on the bed.

My bed is at 115 for abs but unless you use a good quality device to measure the actual temp on the bed temperature values are not %100 comparable.

Because
1: you are measuring under the glass you have no idea what the temp on top is.
2: the thermistor is not at all precise so what it says may not be completely true
3: the temp for the nozzle will be a little bit different for each filament brand and color you use.

You just have to experiment a little bit.

Hi, try with higher temps for the bed. At least 90Âșc, and cover your printer to prevent airflow.
You could use a plastic bag for the moment. ABS likes heated chambers :P

About the hairspray, not all of them work. They must have "Vinyl Neodecanoate Copolymer", that's the stuff that makes your prints stick.

Before I had my PEI sheet installed, UHU stick and ABS juice were my favorites.
For acetone, go to places where they repair boats. I found it there.

Also nail salons or places that sale nail supplies should have Acetone.

I increased the bed temperature to 115 and lowered the Z=0 by 0.02mm. Now it has been starting to adhere to the bed. After 8 attempts, I haven't gotten past the first few layers. It lays down for a while but then it snags what has been adhered and it has to be restarted again.

I bought some hairspray but it doesn't have "Vinyl Neodecanoate Copolymer" in it. Tomorrow, I will try to get some acetone and a different type of hairspray.

Before i got my pei sheet, i had no success with hairspray. Abs juice did work.

Some have had success dissolving gluestick in water and spreading it over the glass and letting it dry.

Thank you to everyone for helping me get off TDC (Top Dead Center). The PEEK shroud has been printed and installed and I have played around with some other small parts using skirts, rafts, supports, infill and spiral vase. I am having fun.

I am using ABS juice of sorts. The closest I got to pure acetone was nail polish remover that lists ingredients of acetone, mineral oil, lanolin and Castor oil. The oils concerned me but it seems that things are working.

I live in the city of Bamako, population 2 million, but I have not been able to find pure acetone and I have really beat the bushes to the tune of 6 hours in the hunt. Very few people have even heard of acetone here.

Thanks again.
