wack temperatures and odd behavior - rostock max v2

ok guys, new rostock owner and relative 3d printing newcomer so please be gentle

for a couple months in my free time i've been getting to know my rostock max printer and feeling good about the progress from rough to dialed in to a little more dialed in...

last week though i had something odd happen. i used mattercontrol to decrease the temperature on the material setting (ABS, printing benchy, attempt to reduce stringing) to 210C from 228.

when i went to print, instead of waiting for the bed and hot end to heat up it just started in cold, trying to print. after a quick hard shut down and a reboot of the printer and mattercontrol, what happens now is that when i preheat, it doesn't stop at the max temp and keeps on going up, quite quickly. i haven't tried to print anything for fear of replicating the cold print issue.

i redid the PID auto tune and found that the Kp Ki and Kd values stored in the EEPROM were way, way off what the auto tune came with. i thought that was strange and i remember when i first did the auto tune the values i put into EEPROM were similar to in the setup manual, as they also were just now when i re-entered them.

but, the problem still exists. temp climbs too high, but doesn't seem to do it as quickly.

anyone have this problem before? or know what else i can try in order to troubleshoot this issue?

sorry if this is a n00b question.

thanks!

EDIT: i did search but didn't find a thread about the things are going on here, and im running the latest mattercontrol configured for seemecnc v 1.3, arduino 1.6.5, repetier firmware 0.91

For the startimg cold issue,

There is a dryrun setting where the printer goes through the motions and does not print. That option could be set by accident.

Does the overshoot in temperature stabilise down later on?

it just keeps going up up and up. it doesn't climb as quickly since i remade the PID autotune values but still keeps going.

i stopped it around 280 a couple times, way too hot i reckon. despite the desired temp being 210 and i think max set in EEPROM being 255. powered it down else it would have kept going.

i read another post about a similar issue here

http://forum.seemecnc.com/viewtopic.php ... 449#p56449

i then set the temperature with on the LCD to 150C. same result, it went to 150 then 160 and climbing. at least when i set the temp back to 0C via LCD then it stopped heating. manually turning the extruder temp to "OFF" via mattercontrol didn't do anything previously.

There is something fishy going on here.

Mind posting your pid values?

Kp (33.75) (33.75) (34.03) [33.84]

Ki (2.62) (2.58) (2.66) [2.62]

Kd (108.62) (110.52) (108.81) [109.32]

avg that i put into EEPROM in brackets. this was from tonight's autotune. what i replaced in EEPROM with these values was totally off, by multiples, but i do not believe that's what i entered initially. i would have noticed if the PID values were not close to the values in the rostock setup manual.

your thermistor may have come loose in its hole.
