Things going well and then poof...

Post by hcdbey »

Here is the sequence of events for today.

I normally have the printer shrouded with a clear plastic sheet to keep the temperature more constant. I removed the sheet in order to make a time-lapse record of the process with a camera.

The amount of filament on the spool is getting low. The Rostock says I have gone through 411 meters of a 400 meter roll. I attempted to measure how much was left on the spool before starting a reasonably large part. In my measurement efforts, I displaced the hanger for the filament spool and this caused the spool to get jammed but I didn't notice and went ahead and started the print.

The printer laid down a skirt and a very small amount of a raft and quit extruding. I stopped the print and saw that the spool was jammed. I rearranged the spool hanger to its proper configuration and used a cable-tie to keep it from getting displaced again.

The print job was started again and the picture below shows the result. The raft laid down pretty well but the first layer was very poorly printed. The plastic shroud was still removed at this time. I let it continue with the raft and the first layer but stopped it shortly after the second layer started.

Then the shroud was replaced and I attempted to print a smaller part. This time even the raft printed very poorly as you can see below.

Can anyone suggest what might be happening and how to fix it or tests I can make to provide more diagnostic information?

Thanks, Hank

You may have a gummed up hobbed gear, take the EZstruder loose and clean it out. May help some.
