Can't communicate with the rambo board.

Hi all, hopefully someone here can help.
I can not get my rambo to communicate with either my Mac or my PC. When I try it on my MAC, there is no port to select. When I try it on my pc, it shows it in the device manager with the exclamation point. I try and manually install the driver and get the error (this device cannot start. (code 10)) and of corse there is no port to select on the PC either.
I'm running the latest OS on my mac. I'm running windows 10 on my PC. I tried a different usb cable and I have an arduino duemilanove thats works fine on both the PC and Mac. The rambo board has a green light thats on and the display lights up with a bunch of blocks across the screen.
I email tech support and got one reply but haven't received anymore communications. I tried to use chat to help but nobody responds.
This is what they suggested to try in the first email. "First thing I'd like to have you check is unplug the endstop cables and connectors from the rambo board. Some times it's easy to get the + and - terminals wired up instead of the S and - If you have any of them wired from + to - it will give this error"
I tried what John suggested with no luck. I took it one step further and unplugged everything from the board except the power supply and fan, still won't communicate. I checked voltage to the connector and I’m getting 12.19 volts. Tried it again on both PC and Mac, it will not work. Any other ideas?

I checked all 3 fuses as well, they're good.

Is this a new build?

Do you see any lights on the Rambo?

The rambo is basically an arduino Mega, but it has a bunch of motor drivers and mossfets so that it can control a 3d printer.

Hi teoman, yes this is a new build. I'm to to point where I need to install the software but can't.

Yes, there is a green light lite on the board. I have other Arduino boards that I can connect to and program with no trouble.

Thanks for any help.

did you install the Rambo USB driver(windows)?
Linux and Mac use CDC as the interface and have the hardware driver built in already

http://download.seemecnc.com/RAMBOUSBDRIVER.zip(windows)

I tried to install the driver but get the error (this device cannot start. (code 10)). This is a windows 10 machine.

Like you said, it should work on my mac but it doesn't. I can't select a port after choosing the correct board.

Both machines work fine with other Arduino boards.

Since you have other arduino's, have you considered using one of them to act as a programmer for the rambo, and re-flash it with the bootloader/firmware?

See if that helps as a start. Beyond that, I imagine it's possible that the Rambo's baud rate is simple so far off yours it won't work, or that some other element of the settings is out of whack. It may also be that you've managed to loosen the USB-B connection due to threading it out at an angle (as is speced in the instructions), or that you have some other form of misfortune. If you're really stumped, send it to Ultimachine, and they'll give it a once over and repair anything that's borked for a nominal fee, which I understand is not something you want to do with a board you just got, but it seems like the best answer.

If you cannot installl the Windows driver this will never work. Is this the only machine you have that is windows 10? If you have other Windows 10 machines try to install the driver on one of them.
Although it should not be necessary the configuration on the machine that will not load the driver may be such that it will never load the driver.
Do you have any older machines running XT or Windows 7?

Yes, Eaglezsoar, I have tried it on my MacBook Air as well. There are no drivers needed for my Mac and neither machine can communicate with it. Basically, windows won't install the drivers because there is something wrong with the Rambo. Both machine's work fine with other Arduino's.

I've done some research on what you've suggested. I found this video from seemecnc. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=mC4Pv15Ibco It's show how to do it with a programer. More importantly, it shows the right connector to use.

Next I found this information on how to use one Arduino to act as a programer. https://www.arduino.cc/en/Tutorial/ArduinoISP The only problem is it didn't show how to properly wire the rambo. I found the wiring info here https://cdn.sparkfun.com/assets/3/b/d/8 ... 8b456a.jpg.

I think your onto something but I'm afraid to start hooking up jumper wires. I don't want to be blamed for damaging my board. I'll do this only if SeeMeCNC say's it's ok. Thanks for the advice to send it to Ultimachine but I feel I paid for a working board from SeeMeCNC, I should be able to send it to them for a new one first.

This is my last resort to try and get someone from SeeMeCNC to help me. I can't seem to get anyone to respond to my emails. I received one response to the first ticket, I replied and haven't heard anything else. I've tried several tickets and the automated responses are coming through fine There is nothing caught in my spam folder. I tried using the help chat and there was no one on the other end to respond. Please PM me, email me, or call me. My order number was 1310789.

This is primarily a user support forum, SeeMeCNC folks don't hang out here much. I would suggest you put in another ticket and continue to try the chat.

I do not work for SeemeCNC but if you are having problems contacting them, don't let them off the hook until you get a hold of them. The squeaky wheel gets the oil.
They are usually fairly responsive but I know that they are fabricating the new Eris printer so that is why they are busy. Do NOT quit calling or writing them and I have
found the chat usually gets the quickest response. You can also try calling them at 574.642.3153 which is eastern time and they close at 4pm.

Thank you Eaglezsoar. I called and got ahold of JJ. He was very nice and apologized for John not getting back to me. Apparently John went out of town. He said it was ok to try and do what Xenocrates suggested and If that didn't work, I could contact him and send the board back. Thanks to everyone who tried to help.

I received my replacement board today. That fixed the problem. I did try downloading the boot loader on the old board but that didn't fix it either. It was just a bad Rambo.

If you do not have to send the bad Rambo back to SeemeCNC you should consider sending it to Ultimachine for repair. Their repairs are not that costly and you can have a spare Rambo.
