Can no longer print at all SOLVED PS was at 220v not 115v

after I attempted to print
the part from this page 110 of the manual after I got a useable PPK fan holder printed (seen on page 2 of my build thread) after i adjusted the end stop on the Gamma tower and switched to using paper .07mm thick from .12mm thick
the tower homed after I hit print (after I used my heat gun to careful raise the bed temp to 80 so printing would start. which was what i had to do to do the peek fan housing to start.)
this is the print I was attempting as referenced here at page 110 the manual http://www.thingiverse.com/thing:50505\n
Highcooley's Onyx Bed Leveling Aid is a great one to test your calibration. Highly recommended. If you can print it perfectly you've "arrived".
then it dived to a spot just between the Alpha tower and the gamma tower about 5 inches above the bed and made stuttering sounds before I turned off the printer

so I went to the simple circles 6mm high from page 110 http://forum.seemecnc.com/download/file.php?id=8210

and did a tower cal and a reset z hight and tried to print... this time it went to a spot about 4 or 5 inch above the bed again near the Alpha tower and started to air print

so i shut down the printer and restarted it and rebooted the macbook pro I am using to drive the mater control i redid the clear memory and reinstall from page 10 and 12 the “Repetier.ino”
and redid tower cal and set for the z hight and tried the 6mm circle again and once again it went to AirPrint in the same area near the alpha tower

after it all being shut down over night I am trying to heat the bed again and once again when 80c is commanded the max it gets to is 73 then it drops to 67 and inches back to 72 or 73 and swings between the two.... i again heated the bed with the heat gun to 80c so it could start the print

the effector homed and once again started to air print the 6mm high small circle near the alpha tower even this on the MC screen it is properly seen as centered on the build plate.

Have I some how mangled the EEPROM settings? the only thing that is going to the center and a paper thickness of the bed is the tower cal macro any thing I attempt to print if it is small like those test circles air prints near the Alpha (X) tower if it is large like the bed leveling aid it also air prints but attempts to get outside the build area with much buzzing...
the important thing is that the first print all was ok except for bed adhesion caused by the bed that cooled to 72c during the course of the print
and I a got a usable fan shroud on the 3rd try

If your printer goes to the correct positions when the tower calibration macros are run, then your EEPROM settings are likely fine. So if everything you try to print goes to the wrong spot, then the problem is likely in your slicer settings. Could be bed dimensions, bed center, maximum height, gcode format, or all of the above.

I can't tell you what the correct settings will be. I stopped using Matter Control.

Thanks I have never yet looked at the slicer I just downloaded the files added them to MC and set z and hit print... In the morning I will see if they are the culprit

Some of the settings may look a little odd, since they may be framed in the assumption of Cartesian movement printers. Matter Control may show the round bed and center the model in the view, but somewhere the slicer needs to be told the bed size and center point. This handshaking of information gets a little broken sometimes when one bit of software gets updated but the other components haven't gotten the same translation.

I encourage you to explore other software options. I got my Max when Repetier-Host was the norm and Matter Control was still getting traction. I moved to MC early. Then there were a series of updates that broke more than they fixed, in my opinion. I no longer print while connected to the PC, so my go to slicer is now KISSlicer.

well aside from the fact that even setting the bed heater control to 3 (it now won't heat above 64c)
the hot end will no longer get to 228 it stops at 223 and i did re run the autotune for it when i installed the peek fan

it still starts anything i try to print about an inch above the build plate and an inch or so from the centre at 8 o'clock

I did check that the mater control slicer is being used and nothing jumped out of the slicer setting jumped out at me

at my level of knowledge (low) I don't think I should be attempting to install let alone use other software... with MC i have the instructions in the user guide to help me.

I suspect that the version of Matter Control you are using is not the same as the one in the Max instruction manual. If you can get an older release of MC, the one used in the manual, use it.

The positioning problem you are wrestling with is a Matter Control problem, not a printer issue.

i got a fresh copy via the link in the manual it points to the DL area of SeeMeCNC and its the same version build 1.4.0.5454
could it be a mangled config file for the software? if so how do I clear it?

the menus don't work like a proper OS X application should
the apple menu and the application name menu in the top menu bar of the screen are dead so there is no preferences tab to check

I tried selecting a different slicer from the default MC one but it just says slicer error even with the one layer test prints and to reset the config so I went back to the MC one I have disconnected and reconnected all to no avail

Can you use Grab to post a screenshot of your Settings > Printer tab?

Have you tried printing off the SD card?

I'd definitely disconnect your printer from the computer and set your Z height then run a simple file from the SDCard.

If not then try Repetier Host coupled with Slicer or Cura (setup is covered in the older manuals) in the meantime to get up and printing.

I've personally not had much luck with MC and experienced the exact same issue (MC gets the Z height wrong even when its set correctly in the EEPROM and works perfectly in Repetier Host). At as guess I would say its related to the bed levelling as when I looked at this issue the EEROM value was definitely correct but it still printed above the bed.

So I'd personally rule out MC, if it works in Repetier then you will know for certain that its MC setup.

Thanks Guys I am about to start on this with this email from JJ in support I have not in fact tried to use the SD card I will keep it in mind incase this is a bug in the current version of MC

I will be happy to help you get to the bottom of things here. From reading all the information from your posts on the forum, it seems like the best approach will be to being with a fresh install of the firmware after a clearing of the EEPROM and then we will go from there addressing one issue at a time (if there are still any) Before clearing the EEPROM, lets go ahead and access the EEPROM and write down the horizontal radius and Z max length so we can enter that back into the EEPROM after the new install. This will help so we do not have to re-calibrate the machine.

Clear the EEPROM
Here is a fresh copy of the firmware to download: https://github.com/seemecnc/Repetier-09 ... b16b85.zip
Open the Firmware and lets make some modifications In the configuration.h tab:
- Line 701: Change the motor Current to: 145,145,145,145,0

Upload the firmware
Next lets make some changes to the EEPROM
- Change the Horizontal Radius and Z max length to the value that you previously recorded
- Change the Diagonal Rod Length to 290.8
- Change the BED PID drive max to 255
- Change the BED PID max value [0-255] to 255
- Change the EXTR.1 PID drive max to 255
Save these values to the EEPROM

Next, preheat the hot end and bed, and perform a Z Height calibration via the LCD controller to ensure that this setting is accurate after the changes and we don't crash the bed.

Finally, run a print and see if things have improved.

Well the Powersupply was set at 220 as shipped which might be at the core of my problems so I have reset it to 115V and I
am doing the initial calibration from the start as if I had not run it at all

I do wonder why JJ says to use 145 rather than the 155 for the motor current in the build manual but I have made the changes he specified and after lunch I will start afresh.

Motor current depends a lot on the motors, they've changed supplier several times over the years.
The higher it is the hotter they will run, but to a point they will put out more torque, generally lower results in quieter operation also.

All seems to be well knock wood
This is my second file to try to print the layer fan
I took there tries with the low voltage to the heaters to get the PEEK fan shroud printed useably
but this is just the first thing off the plate after setting the voltage properly on the PS and recalibrating.

I am very pleased :D with this progress it is far better than i imagined my first prints would look like after talking to friends who related tales of failure after failure with their Cartesian printers
it actually feels safe to fit the smoked plastic covers now :geek:

Congrats, surprised it powered up at all with the PS voltage set wrong :)
