temperature setting for prints in MatterControl?

Post by hghowe »

On my Rostock Max v2, I am getting some jams just below the extruder drive screw, and I think it is because the extruder temperature is dropping during the prints - the jam keeps happening at about z=1 inch on the prints. so I mention this as the thing that led to the problem I am asking about...

I'm trying to get the printer to print at a higher extruder temperature. I can set the desired temperature of the bed via MC's controls or the knob on the device, and it works fine, but as soon as I print a job, the desired temperature resets to 210°C - I've made a custom filament profile with the extruder temp at 215, but it doesn't seem to have any effect, whether I print via USB or SD card. I've even tried to set the machine running with the ABS preset that came with the software - it still is setting the extruder to 210.

Am I missing a step to "lock in" the profile (Quality & Material) so that it affects the print jobs that the software is creating? Currently, my process is to have them showing in the Settings & Controls -> Settings tab, I switch back to the Queue and then press print. However, the settings aren't being reflected in the print.

I have a new, factory-built Rostock Max 2, and I'm running MatterControl 1.4 on a Mac running El Capitan.

Thanks in advance,

You need to save the profile, and then select it in the drop down menu. If this isn't working, then after the print has started, you can adjust the temperatures with the knob. But it will reset the temp if there is a temp setting g code, say when you start a print. You can also hand edit the g code by hand, looking for e1 s210 or so, change the s parameter to your desired temperature

I have been saving and selecting it, but I'll give your other tips a try. I'd like to find something more systematic than editing every file I print by hand... I'm a teacher, and that can be hard to communicate to students.

Ok. I can print and then immediately set the temperature on the machine to 215, which does the job. But then what is the point of all the filament profiles?????

I've looked in the gcode that I've exported - there is no E1 S210 in the file, but I do see an M104 S210 and M109 S210. (According to a cheat sheet I found here: https://thingiverse-production-new.s3.a ... tSheet.pdf, these are extruder temp controls.) So, yes, I could change this, but what a hassle. Why isn't it being reflected by MatterControl when I try to make changes?!?
