Thanks Brian,
I should have admitted to not having checked specs.
Lulzbot suggest them for extruders, though I don't now through what gearing.
BTW I haven't done the f=ma arithmetic either, but maybe my super light trucks need less f to a them.

Re: Stepper motor dampers don't seem to be working
Regb... No im talking about on an Orion with the Dampers in place the backs of the stepper motors touch the outer casing. The spacers im on about are simply spacing out the bolt on side panels so they don't touch the backs of the motors. You have probably fixed this by now, so what I am about to ty...

Hardware at Sparkfun.
I found these at Sparkfun; https://www.sparkfun.com/products/8599" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false; I seem to have a genetic inability to crimp. I have watched many videos, tried a couple of different tools, etc. It is SO bad that I have resorted to chopping plugs off of exist...

Re: Filament sensor
Here's a thought; Slicers estimate the actual LENGTH of filament needed for each print, typically in mm. It isn't REALLY DIFFICULT to estimate what is left on the reel and decide whether it is a good or bad idea to start a print with what is left. Given the cost of a kilo or a pound of filament, the...

Re: T slot extrusion tolerances
Short answer; I don't know. Slightly longer answer; Contact a metals warehouse and ask for their specs. DECADES AGO I built a utility trailer from steel tubing that I bought as off-cuts and rejects. Barely perceptible bends and twists, but I was able to get long enough cuts out of what I bought wher...

Re: Stepper motor dampers don't seem to be working
I've been fiddling to see if I could improve the noise damping.. well after testing by releasing the stepper motors in Repetier and testing each tower independently (homing it) it turns out that ALL of the stepper motors contact the case plates on an Orion with the Astosyn dampers in place (Well on...

Re: Delta geometry off, tilting effector plate
I have been having some thoughts on this lately. ONE thing that we COULD measure and match during assembly is the degree to which pairs of arms are parallel. Simple approach; BEFORE attaching the axle carriers to the cheapskates insert the axles and slide the U joints on. Insert the axles in the eff...

Re: ARM LENGTH
Without doing ANY calculation I think you would be trading one problem for another, perhaps acceptable, perhaps not. Longer arms probably means magnification of position repeatability errors. What if you could build very high towers and use say 10m arms on a mere 280mm build plate ? Not something I ...

Re: Assembly manual discussion thread!
I really like the manual, it was a fairly major factor in my decision to buy a Max2 it instead of ...whatever Cartesian printer. I suggest a couple of slight changes in the sequence of steps. a) leave the heated bed, delta arms, effector, hot end, etc OFF until after the initial power up and homing ...

Now TOTALLY unrelated to J heads... A sudden discovery of head lice at my daughter's house today certainly helped the local pharmacy keep the lights on. Tons of clothes, bedding and soft toys to wash and dry, so the laundromat made out too. Back towards the topic; The pictures of Jim's solution are ...

{Not STRICTLY J-head related} I got three of Glenn's quick connect boards just before the holiday, along with the trick trucks upgrade. I have inventor fusion, will try your file as soon as I can.
Do you have an e-mail address that I can send an stl file to if/when I make one ?
Probably best NOT to publish that, send me a board PM.

Re: Trick Trucks - Lightweight Aluminum Carriages by Trick L
I counted that way too, I just left out the one under the axle bolt's head. I assembled mine the other way around, i.e. axle bolt though bearing, spacer washer, bearing, 1/4 inch spacer, 2 spacer washers, truck plate, nut. This way I can take the nut off and remove the whole thing as long as I keep ...

Re: Trick Trucks - Lightweight Aluminum Carriages by Trick L
OK, I'll hoof on down to the hardware store for longer end-stop screws. I think I discovered a good sequence for assembly/adjustment. 1) Leave the axle carrier OFF. 2) Leave the top wheel very slack to get it around the post, put it around the post. 3) Tighten up the top wheel, adjust the eccentric ...

Re: Trick Trucks - Lightweight Aluminum Carriages by Trick L
I got mine yesterday and "set to it". First thing I noticed is that the stop screw doesn't reach the micro-switch - because the top wheel of the truck stops against the upper tower bracket. I would need to back the screws out 1/2 inch or so, but they would fall out long before that. I have...

Re: Got my first fail
Difficult to tell.
I have had things go terribly wrong when a part breaks free from the bed, or if a corner curls up.
It seems the longer (LARGER) the job the more shrinkage becomes a breaking free risk - once the part touches the nozzle all bets are off, filament seems to go anywhere/everywhere.

More likely you'll get used to it. In my youth I had cars like that, so I'd just turn up the radio (-: "Belt dust" seems ominous, I hope that is corrected. There was some concern in a thread that having to put the pulleys so far out might lead to them not running true. I'm not enthusiastic...

Re: Stepper motor dampers don't seem to be working
@RocketMagnet; Yes, right now the astosyns are in with the longer screws - with the rubber grommets and washers on the belt side. This is why I believe it is the hard rubber of the astrosyns that transmit more vibration/sound than the foam rubber gaskets, i.e. the A/B difference is the astrosysns vs...

Re: Astrosyn Dampers on Orion?
I hate to "harsh anyone's buzz", but I put Astrosysns in my max a week or two ago and it is now LOUDER than it was with the foam gaskets, 1/8 inch grommets & longer motor screws - which had the advantage of barely needing a mm of hob gear out-shift. It isn't worth my time and trouble ...

Re: Stepper motor dampers don't seem to be working
I had originally built my V2 with foam rubber gaskets between the motor faces and the melamine. I also used longer screws with 1/8 inch rubber grommets and washers under the heads to isolate them from the other (belt) side of the melamine. This was largely because astroboy was out of stock of the as...
