Re: Broke down and bought a license...

Just updated my Simplify 3D to the latest release. Since I was using it for my Flashforge (sold it recently) I finally reconfigured it for the Rostock. All I can say is wow. Just a few settings changed (retract down to 4mm) and I am amazed. I will post some comparison pics when I can. I not only lov...

Humm, any recommendation on how to do the constant current circuit? That is just a certain resistor across the leads right?

Re: Canola Convert

I have been using Matterslice for about everything. After the update, I cannot get Mattercontrol to use the slic3r option at all though. It will just set the temps to zero and say that it is heating up...... nothing happens. Matterslice has given me the cleanest prints by far. I haven't even tried K...

Re: Best place to pick off 12vdc for LED lighting

I ran mine directly from the power supply. They do flicker when everything is heating up. I wonder if upgrading the power supply would solve this issue.

Re: Loud Rambo Fan? Use this!

Ordered this fan off of Amazon today. My stock fan seems to be making some noise on startup. The noise quiets down after a min or so, but it seems it was going through a struggle. LOL

Re: Canola Convert

I got an E3D V6 nozzle pretty early after getting my Rostock Max V2. I haven't had a single jam. No oil, and running all kinds of filament through it. I have did ABS, PLA, and ninjaflex. The ninjaflex does fail, but its because of the extruder losing grip on jamming there. I just tried it a few time...

I like Mattercontrol, but I always seem to get crashes and errors. Crazy stuff like getting support even though I turn it completely off.

Re: So many slicers, what to use?

I downloaded Mattercontrol. It looks like they don't have the Flashforge setup listed in the printers. Anyone know where I can find the setting for this. I would like to try it out on the Flashforge before my Rostock Max V2 arrives and I get it put together.

I noticed you used the Mattercontrol / Slic3r and Mattercontrol / Cura combination but I am curious as to why you haven't tried the Mattercontrol/Matterslice configuration. Tried that option yet?

Re: So many slicers, what to use?

With that being said... I think I will try Matterslice on my Flashforge instead of Simplify3D. One thing positive about Simplify3D is the support control. I will give them that. One negative thing to say about Simplify3D is that if you do have something negative to say about the software on their fo...

Re: Best moisture-free filament strategy?

Yeah, $300 plus dollars is still kinda expensive, but it can dry out the nylon in about an hour instead of up to 12 hours in a regular oven and take a chance on warping your roll. Not sure how the heat stresses the filament or multiply uses for that matter.

Re: Best moisture-free filament strategy?

I am working with a local company here that makes a very nice vacuum pump and heated chamber. The chamber heating pad just sticks to the bottom and is on a timer. It can pull down to -28HG or so at my current elevation (Chicago) and with the added heating pad on bottom, could remove all moister from...

Re: Best moisture-free filament strategy?

For example, we used a Pro-Set 10 micron pump (12cfm double stage) in order to get a chamber down to -29hg. The pump was about $1k. For a professional vacuum oven, the replacement pumps are about $5k.

draws down to 75 microns. Most pumps say they draw down to 50 microns. In a 2ft cubic chamber, the most you will get from this pump is about -23hg at best. It will probably only last a month or so if you do this daily as well. Owned many. LOL The only way you can do it often and down to -29HG is to ...

Re: Best moisture-free filament strategy?

Yes. An air separator will help with some moisture, but the act of compressing the air itself does nothing. If you have a larger compressor, sometimes you can get the water to condense on the sides and flow to the bottom. Releasing the air from the tank usually stirs this back up and you can watch w...

Re: Best moisture-free filament strategy?

Unfortunately, a vacuum oven isn't cheap. The container and heating element (pretty weak and straightforward) is the easy part. The pumps are really expensive. The cheaper AC checker pumps just don't pull enough vacuum to get the job done and they fail often.

Re: Best moisture-free filament strategy?

Yes, I misspoke. I was at one point storing it in a pressurized container (4-5psi), because compressed air is very dry. . This is an incorrect idea. Compressed air is just simply more air with a higher boiling point. More air at 50% humidity is just simply more humid air. Most compressed air that c...

Re: Best moisture-free filament strategy?

I took the lid off quickly and took a picture. Just a few seconds and the humidity begins to climb up over 25%. Removing into apartment atmosphere and it says 62% (currently raining outside). It may not dry filament out, but it sure provides a cheap dry chamber for 8 watts of power.

I can see making it a vacuum chamber, but not pressure chamber. Lower pressure = lower boiling point. I took some pics. Now gotta figure out how to post them via mobile. Lol

Re: Best moisture-free filament strategy?

I have a 5 gallong bucket with a Gamma lid. (Airtight). Inside, I mounted a gun safe heater (8W), and also put some desiccant in the bucket. Just because you heat the air in an airtight container doesn't remove the moister. It needs somewhere to go so place some desiccant with it. I used some simple...
