Re: trying to mount trick trucks
Here is a bracket I drew to mount ball-cup arms to Trick Trucks... http://repables.com/r/716/" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false; It would work on old v1 Cheapskate carriages also. One note on this: if you are using one of the longer sheet metal screws to attach the ball mounts...

Re: fill and surfaces not going to perimeters
Thanks for the reminder on calibrating the extruder as well. I was having some blobbing isssues on small parts. I calibrated the extruder last night and the problem went away completely.

Re: fill and surfaces not going to perimeters
That was it. Loose belts. I had changed a bunch of stuff on the printer recently (new bed, trick trucks) and apparently I didn't get the belts tensioned properly.
Here's the same part after tightening the idlers:

fill and surfaces not going to perimeters
What causes this? I haven't gotten a single good print tonight. The infill and the surfaces on this model are not printing to the edges. I can watch it printing and from the very first layer, it simply stops the printing of the surface before it gets to the edge. look at the arm on the left, and you...

Re: what did I change?
I'm running it off of an old ASUS slate. Only 4 Gig of ram, only dual-core 1.33. Not a beefy setup at all.

Re: what did I change?
That's ok. It looks like running off the SD card is working fine. I did another large wall print, and the bumps are gone. No changes other than running the Gcode off the card instead of over the USB cable.

Re: what did I change?
Follow up: I set extrusion to 90% and did a few small prints. That seems to have taken care of the problem. I'll do another wall now to see if it's truly fixed. Edit: nope. The larger print I just ran had the same issue. I expect that I actually got my settings back to what I had before, it's just t...

what did I change?
OK, before we get into the meat of the problem, I will admit that I have sinned. I am guilty of not writing down my settings. There. I've said it. I am an evil bad person who strives for consistency without taking the necessary steps to get there. I have learned my lesson at the school of hard knock...

Re: trying to mount trick trucks
The molded plastic carriages are a big improvement over the original "cheapskate" design, they do work quite well. No mod or upgrade to the Rostock MAX v2 is really "necessary" ...however the Trick Trucks do provide more rigidity, precision, and smoothness. Trick Truck wheels ha...

Re: trying to mount trick trucks
Ah, lovely.
A bunch of folks recommended that I get the trucks and different arms as a starting upgrade, but I assume they were using the older version of carriages and arms. I do indeed have the injection molded carriages and ball cup arms.
Anyone wanna buy a set of assembled Trick Trucks?![Smile :)](./images/smilies/icon_e_smile.gif)

Re: Extruder motor overheat
This is the exact problem I had with mine. Turns out I had missed a step in the configuration manual. Bottom of page 12, top of page 13: If your kit was shipped with the Kysan or Automation Technology stepper motors (we covered that earlier, remember?), you're going to need to make a small tweak to ...

trying to mount trick trucks
Along with my Rostock, I also purchased a set of trick trucks from Tricklaser. It looks like the stock ball joint arms can be connected directly to them. (edit: nope, looks like a spacer of some sort is needed.) However I am planning on upgrading my arms at a future point as well. Rather than going ...

Re: My build, and some troubleshooting
AHA! I missed the step in the configuration manual about changing the current for the extruder motor when using the Automation Technology motors. That may make a big difference.

Re: My build, and some troubleshooting
It seems like adding a heatsink to the extruder stepper motor, and perhaps even a fan, would go a long way to help. The filament might not get as soft as it goes through the EZ-struder.

Where do you add the cap screw to add force to the extruder?Xenocrates wrote: Increasing your extruder force can help, say by adding a cap screw (like the one you used to put threads in the mellamine (i think the redneck tap is still in there), for example),

Re: My build, and some troubleshooting
I think I solved the problem. I had misunderstood part of the directions, and had mounted my filament spool holder on the top, between the Y and Z towers, but had the ez-struder in the right place between the X and Z towers. (not sure why there is a duplicate set of holes/placement for each part the...

Re: My build, and some troubleshooting
I dropped the nozzle temp to 190. That got me one good print, but another run on the same object failed; about 20 minutes in it stopped extruding again. Again it was jammed up in the Ez-Struder. After pulling the Bowden tube I was able to cut the material and easily push more down the line, which ex...

Re: My build, and some troubleshooting
Well, I had one good print at 5mms, but then a second copy of the same print died partway through again. Mangled filament in the Ez-struder. After cutting it, I was able to push on the filament in the Bowden tube. There was some light resistance, then it gave and started extruding filament as I push...

Yeah, sorry I should have mentioned that. I'm using the E3Dv6. I have a print going now with retract set at 5mms, and my fingers crossed.

Re: 14" of 18ga hotbed power wires?
+1 here on recommending a manual update. I found the picture of the 14" wires, but was hesitant to measure off 14" off the length and cut it, since the previous set of wires were pre-cut, and nothing in the instructions said to cut them. I didn't want to wind up short later. It wasn't a bi...

Re: UPS lost my printer!
Update: MatterHackers has been great. They are sending me out a replacement. I decided to pay extra to have it overnighted, so I'll be able to build it this 3 day weekend. I'd wait for regular shipping, but most weeknights I only have about an hour free in the evenings, so weekends are when I can do...
