New guy from LA

Hi Everyone,

Like a lot of first posters, I am eagerly awaiting the arrival of my max2 kit. I have jumped into reading the assembly instructions and started to peruse the forums. I have a lot to catch up on and I am sure I will ask silly newb questions!

I am fairly new to 3d printing, but I am not new to 3d design. I have been doing 3d modeling since 1993, starting with 3d Studio r4 (DOS Based!). About 2 years ago I built a 3 axis 4'x8' cnc router based on
Joe's CNC Evo". I have been playing with that ever since. My version of the router design has a modified folding frame that allows me to flip the bed sideways to save space.

Recently, I have added a 2 watt laser (called "el cheapo" from a kickstarter run) to the router that allows me to etch and cut thin materials. At some point, I plan on building a new head for the router to allow for 5 axis routing. It is has been a fun ride.

At the moment, however, I want to break into 3d printing. I love the aesthetics of the delta approach and Rostock Max v2 specifically.

I am certainly willing to do my due diligence and read up as much as I can. But, I do have certain functionality requirements I need from the machine. Specifically, I will need to be able to print out parts that contain both ninjaflex and abs. Any suggestions on how to ramp up to that as efficiently as possible would be greatly appreciated.

I plan on building the machine fairly stock initially, though I have ordered a light ring, stepper dampers and carbon fiber arms from trick laser.

Welcome to the Forum, we are glad you purchased the Rostock Max!
The small laser router sounds cool and can be fun to use, the power is small but it can cut thin metals and such which would be great to use. I do not have a laser machine.
You are new to 3D printing and we welcome any questions you may have.
If you can, we would appreciate pictures of the build and finished printer.

I just received the kit box and will be doing the inventory tonight. I hope to get building tomorrow.

Hello neighbor! I'm just in the next city over (Northridge).

If I can be of any help when you're building the V2, just let me know. I've got about 270 hours of total printing time on my V2 so far.

I just got the firmware and software loaded. I am going to try and get it calibrated and printing today.
