Hi Everyone. Calling in from Ecuador I registered to this forum to learn more about 3D printing in General and the Rostock Max V2 in particular. I am in the market for my very first 3D printer. While getting supplies is not always easy I am looking for something fun and reliable. Of course budget is a big concern as the money spent is at the moment just for checking things out. I am going to the US in 10 days and plan to fly back on the 14th Nov. with a printer in my luggage. Airlines rules dictate, the box can't be larger than 62" (L+W+H) what eliminates a lot of printers, like the DaVinci 1 I was looking at but it is just too big(surely the price is attractive!). The Rostock Max V2 kit and the Solidoodle4 are 2 printers that would "fit the bill"
About me: Originally from Germany I migrated to the US 20 years ago and moved to Ecuador 3 years ago. I invited 2 friends (other Gringo Expats) to teach them some SketchUp and we looking forward to have a printer available.Unfortunately they can't pinch in financially, so it is up to me to buy the printer.
Should I take the plunge, spending $1000 + shipping on the Rostock I will become an active member, first more on the receiving end but for sure sharing my thoughts and growing knowledge over time.
Hola from Ecuador

G'day,
Do it!
The board is a great community and support is not far away if you need it. Make a wise purchase of a Rostock and do yourself a favour and buy a set of dampers for the steppers in the base, they really work.
You will have a ball. There is some gear you will probably want to get when you are in the states too, high temp silicone and some connectors etc...

Hello Bob
How are things down under?
Thanks for your encouragement! How much commission are you getting? Just kidding. Is there a list of recommended parts to get, preferable with links to stuff that works/fits/performs? Would I still live in the US it wouldn't be a big deal as most things are just a couple of UPS/FedEx days away. Being in Ecuador changes things quite a bit. I can see the value of the support through this friendly and knowledgeable forum with people having the same machine. The Rostock is pretty high on my list, would they come with an "end of the month special" or something, I would jump on it. I still have a couple of days before times becomes critical and I hope for valuable input form this and other foums/groups.

Get a copy of the manual and start having a read

You will find everything you need to do the job and hints on what you need to buy. In particular the compounds that you need to have for the hot end. There is a way around it to fit a cartridge for heat and a screw in thermistor but you need to buy them from somewhere over there, I got mine on eBay and a 3mm tap. Have a read of the forum, keep a look out for McSlappy he has done few of the mods on this board. The only other thing would be the 40mm fan for the Rambo, change it when you build. I used a Noctua and I don't expect to need to touch it again for a long time.
Nah, no connection to seemecnc: just a happy customer. I am a 63 year old who has had a pretty serious stroke about 13 years ago, nothing works on the right hand side but I can drive a printer just fine I was tied up in the computer business before the stroke and the computer side of things still works in the brain.

Re: Hola from Ecuador
Hi! I found this post looking for the word "luggage" as I am planning to bring a V3 kit form the US to Mexico City.
So, how did it go? were you able to take your printer to Ecuador?
Did you have any issues?
How happy are you with the V2?
Please tell us about it!
Thanks, Ernie
