Overtemp protection

I've seen some concern here and there about 3D printers in general burning up hot ends on thermistor failure and/or being a fire hazard.
How about running the heater power through a thermal fuse and mount that in contact with the heat sink above the heat break? This way if the cooling fan fails or the thermistor fails or the software crashes, the fuse blows and kills the heat.
Cheap insurance.
