Essential H-1 Mods

Post by mhackney »

Hey folks, here is a list of some of the essential H-1 mods. I'll keep this list updated but please feel free to discuss or make suggestions. I'd like to create a topic for each of these with the relevant info, files, etc and then link these to the topics. If anyone wants to take a crack at these topics, go wild!

Essential Mods
  1. timing belt idlers "skate bearing upgrade" with printed bearing bushings
  2. hot bed - nearly essential for printing ABS
  3. hot end fan (essential if you print with PLA) with printed fan bracket
  4. ball bearing upgrade
Almost Essential Mods
  1. X and Y timing belt "hose clamp tensioning devices"
  2. printed case/stand for Velleman thermostat (2 if you have a Velleman controlled hot bed too)
  3. glass print bed (topper)
  4. blue tape/kapton tape to cover print bed

I would make the heated bed essential. You can't print any object with ABS larger then 2"x2" without it warping.
I would move the X and Y timing belt to 'Almost essential' because the machine will work just fine without them, would I not use them? Maybe, but most likely not.

Essentials I would add:
* Modifying H-1 3 Axis controller board
* knurled rollers for extruder feeder

For 'almost essentials' I would add:
* glass print bed (topper)
* blue tape/kapton tape to cover print bed

Thanks Michael. I'll swap the 2 items. I did not include the modify board because that is in the H-1 Electronics Manual as essential to do. The knurled rollers are now knurled (I'll double check and verify that though).

cheers,
Michael

Printing with the solution of Acetone + ABS is a better replacement of hot bed.

Check it on 5:32 of this video:

Pay attention with this solution, it sticks a lot. Do not use it with hot bed on your first test.

Hey Lynx,

He is still using a heat bed with the PTE tape and solution. Do you not use a heat bed at all and the prints stick with just the acetone solution and rough PTE surface?
