E3D-V6 hotend tip

Instead of using the thermister that came with the hotend, we're using one of these http://www.ebay.com/itm/M3-Stud-Thermis ... SwxcRW8gNv screwed into the M3 screw hole you use to hold in the stock thermistor. Much cleaner setup in my opinion. The screw hole is a little deeper than the screw in thermistor, so we used Arctic Silver to fill that void.
Don't forget the make sure the EXT0_TEMPSENSOR_TYPE is set to 1.

Thought I'd throw it out there since in researching some questions I had, still see recent posts with people using the stock one which we found a PIA.

It's a nice tip for the older V6's, but it won't work for the new V6's, as they use a cartridge thermistor like the PT100 or new thermocouple's. (Interesting that they' didn't increment the version for that big of a change, but hey). I agree for the V5 and V6's without a cartridge socket. I do think the cartridge is a major improvement though.

I meant to email them and ask when that change happened. Our hotend isn't that old and it's the old style.

You can switch over to the cartridge thermistor, or PT100 sensor, or thermocouple, by purchasing the new heater block.

I should definitely be using sensor_type 1? I left it at 8 like E3d tutorial said...is that why my heat seems to be a little off pretty much always? My print results are a bit whack.

Always use the correct profile for a given sensor. If you change the sensor, use the table provided for the new sensor. I have no idea if 1 is the correct one for that sensor. I don't believe it is though. Use one of the user tables with that profile in it when in doubt. Then confirm it with a thermocouple (These can be had in a number of forms. A popular one is finding a ~30$ multimeter that includes one). There are guides for adjusting the Beta values to match the actual part once you can profile it with a thermocouple on these forums if you search.

I looked it up and I do believe the Sensor_Type is 1. "confirmed" by reading a Delta Printer book I got off Amazon. I'm going to try it tonight and see if my results are more accurate than the previous setting of 5.

From the book:
" 1 is 100k thermistor - best choice for EPCOS 100k (4.7 pullup)"

I think that sounds right.

This sounded wrong to me:
"5 is for 100k thermistor - ATC Smitec 104GT-2 (Used in ParCan & J-Head (4.7k pullup)"
