Rostock Max V2 calibration

Post by Johncoffee »

I just want to share my bed calibration measurement video I've made yesterday. I'm pretty satisfied with the accuracy. Setting the adjustment screws correct was so much more easy compared to 'by eye' adjustment.
Definitely worth the investment of 30$ for the gauge.

I have a similar gauge from Harbor Freight. May I ask, what did you use for the mount?

One of these would do, depending on shaft diameter.
The second one is my own design, and fits a 8mm shaft.

Your video was an inspiration and I have to get to Harbor Freight to get the gauge.
Thanks for posting the video!

How do you go about calibrating with this method? do you have a custom script you run? or could you possibly point me in the direction of a guide as i have read a few different things and cant seem to get it to work. i also have the harbor freight dial indicator. any help would be greatly appreciated!

That's a great way to do it. I still can't get the in between points to save my life, but I can hit directly beneath each tower within 1 thou.

I wrote some Macros to move the hot end to each tower & the center individually. Each move with the gauge in air during the movement. On Each tower I've adjust the corresponding end switch to have the same reading as on the towers. The closer you are to a identical reading on each tower, the less the influence of the two towers end switch positions. (e.g. if you adjust X and its end switch, Y & Z screws/switches also influence X.)

Then check the center again. Change the rod length in EEPROM settings to have a identical readings at the center & edge. Then check with a Macro to move to all 4 positions for verification and final high precision tuning.

Thats how I did it. Indeed very quick and accurate.
I need to check the position between the towers as well - this seems to be the hard part I heard. Had no time yet to check on that. First I need to overcome the issue with a different height when cold / heated on all points. This seems to be the bending of the ONYX under constrains with the screws at the sides.

Perhaps you would be able to share these macros? Thanks and thanks for posting to You Tube.
They are probably wondering how you created the movements also.
