File Conversion, DS Mechanical to Fusion 360?

Post by Envisage »

Hey there, I'm new here, anyone know how I can take my design from Design Spark Mechanical into Fusion 360? They have no shared export import options and I can't find a file converter at all.

Can you export your design spark model to .step or format? It would easily open in fusion 360.

As far as I know, DSM only does it's native format and STL. (DSM is basically SpaceClaim)

An OBJ is probably your best bet for porting to Fusion... I'm not far off from doing that, myself. It's a great and intuitive program, but it does have limits that force you to outgrow it eventually.

Not really. It's a free version of an expensive parametric design tool.

From the DS developers standpoint not supporting STEP and IGES export is a good way to lock people in, I assume their intent is to have people invested enough that when they decide to upgrade they are more likely to select their own expensive product rather than someone elses.
Having said that though I do use imported STEP files in Fusion 360, you lose all the value that parametric CAD offers when you start with something that doesn't have construction history.

I wonder if you could sign up for the 30 day trial of full blown SpaceClaim and export your files in a better format that way?
