A possible new product from 713maker.com? You decide!
Hey guys!
First and foremost I want to say THANK YOU to everyone who has just blown us away with the kind words and comments on our mounts. Seeing so many mounts on printers at MRRF and seeing all the international orders we get is just amazing! Thank you all a million times over to everyone who has helped us grow and for those who had a bit of a wait or an untapped hole here or there in the early stages, Those days are pretty much over. Our new mill has the stock bins overflowing with parts and our turn around is a couple of days on 90%+ of all orders right now. We also thread mill ALL holes on the mill right after they are bored so no more issues there either thankfully.
So a few of you know that we also do custom FPV racers and we vacuum resin infuse our own carbon fiber panels at 713 for drone frames. So I happen to have all kinds of carbon fiber and hybrid composite fabrics in the workshop for the drone panels. This got me thinking one day and I ran an idea by a few folks in the know at MRRF, but we have largely kept it under the table so far. I got to looking at my printer one day and felt it was missing something. While pulling a custom carbon panel for a customer it hit me! I could pull a thin and flexible panel to replace the plain old acrylic panels. SO... This is a hybrid of carbon fiber and dyed fiberglass. It is a flexible panel that is a direct replacement for the stock panels. We have lots of colors to pick from like: So in the end it comes down to you guys. Everything else we make is made to enhance the function of the printer one way or another. But this is purely a looks thing. The upside is it looks super sweet in person and for some folks that is a major deal. The down side is that as everyone knows, composites are not cheap so the sets would have to come in around the $25-$35 range for a full 6 panel set. We pull each panel right here in the shop then mill them to size. So in the end it comes to down you guys. If there is a desire, we can make this an option in the store, or if not we can just keep it as a special order type thing for those in the know.
Shout out and let me know if it is a DUD or a winner. We are excited to see what you guys think, but we know, the only function it servers overall is to look good.

That looks really terrific! Personally I like my upgrades to be functionally above aesthetically pleasing. And running some kind of private signing shop I would probably go another route. But your design is absolutely sweet! Given the fact that lot's of people spend 100s on PC case mods, lights, panels and what not, I think your panels stand a good chance of becoming a success!
I am DeltaCon, I have a delta, my name is Con, I am definitely PRO delta!

I think I would like it a lot better if the panels were vented, but it definitely looks amazing. You do have all the equipment you'd need to put vents holes in them, since you already mill carbon fiber panels.
Machines:
Rostock Max V2, Duet .8.5, PT100 enabled E3D V6 and volcano, Raymond style enclosure
Automation Technology 60W laser cutter/engraver

I typically don't do cosmetic upgrades, so these would not be something I would order.
As for them being vented, I would vote against that. I actually put sound insulation on the back of my panels to keep the stepper motor noise down. Vents would defeat that and make the machine louder.
I do look forward to ordering your hot end mounts... Just trying to decide on the configuration I want.
Keep up th fine work.

As stunning as they are I too would not be a buyer of these. Since I cracked 2 of mine in bending them for installation last December i should be a prime target for these. My fix was to use some tin sheet I had handy and it I if wanted to I could get some of the so called glitter tape to cover them and get quite close to the great look you have created
My printer is a tool and I did not even bother to paint the edges of the melamine but perhaps the folks that did PC use mods would love this for their printer....
sorry but you did ask
this stuff in many designs goes for about $6 for 40 feet 1 inch wide.My printer is a tool and I did not even bother to paint the edges of the melamine but perhaps the folks that did PC use mods would love this for their printer....

I welcome all honest feedback. I do not expect these to be super popular. This post is really a matter of if we make some panels and keep them in stock, or if we only do them special order, which would be about a week lead time as the carbon must cure fully and a solid week is suggested. If I did not have tons of composite fabric around for the drone work, I never would have made them myself. It is looking more and more like we will list them, but will be a special order as mentioned and we will just pull panels as needed which is fine. The drone guys use the carbon like mad, so we are not out the cost of the stock at all so no worries there. But we are always open to feedback which is what we asked for.

I actually broke one of my panels the other day and while I wouldn't spend the money to replace working panels these might be a bit more rugged than the plexiglass was...

Rostock D2 looks great in blue.
I did a little bit of a custom order, and Matthew made me panels that had some ventilation gills in them. Looks great, I'm very pleased!

I sent him a pm, but he must be busy.
I originally asked him about the octagon ones...
I wonder if it would be possible to get in with the octagon empressions in green/black like yours, but without the slits....

How much did they end up costing you?
Re: A possible new product from 713maker.com? You decide!
For that price, I would be interested. Have already busted one panel, and would have gladly paid for this as a replacement.

I doubt that is possible. I did a lot of research into carbon fiber when we were building our world record setting water rocket, and it's very expensive to create the machines that weave these materials. The more complex the weave, the more expensive the material. The fabric with dual colors is a simple twill and is common and there are several suppliers for this. The hexagonal pattern weave is much harder to source, and I've only ever seen it in black or silver, never 2 colors. I suspect that the nature of the weave is such that there's no way to alternate the fiber tow bands to get a really appealing look. I think someone would have done it if it were possible, I've never seen it.Qdeathstar wrote:I sent him a pm, but he must be busy.
