wiring diagram for HE280 hotend

Post by Penged »

I'm ready to install the new hotend on my V2 but the wires will not reach down to the RAMBO in the base. I was going to put a term strip on the top as a connection point between the old hotend wires coming from the RAMBO to the new hotend harness. Is there a diagram to help me out with that or a better way I'm not seeing?

There are full V1/V2 upgrade instruction here: http://seemecnc.dozuki.com/Guide/Rostoc ... de/49#s402

No wiring diagram but there is a detailed description of what wires to splice to the new whip as well as how to re-wire connections on the RAMBO board.

There's also this diagram http://seemecnc.dozuki.com/Document/23/.pdf that shows how the V3 connects to the RAMBO which is useful. I used it to do continuity checks from the 8 pin HE connector to where the wires connected on the RAMBO. Let me double check that I did my splicing and wiring correctly when I did my upgrade.

I did this to help me do the splicing between the new wiring whip and the previous V2 wires:
V2 HE + (Red 18awg) <=> New whip HE + (Red 18awg)
V2 HE - (Black 18awg) <=> New whip HE - (Black 18awg)
V2 T0 + (White Marked 26awg) <=> New whip Green
V2 T0 – (White 26awg) <=> New whip White
V2 FAN 0 + (Red 26awg) <=> New whip Blue
V2 FAN 0 – (Black 26awg) <=> New whip Orange
V2 Heat 1 + (Red 26awg) <=> New whip Red 26awg
V2 Heat 1 – (Black 26awg) <=> New whip Black 26awg

Super cool, thank you. i seen the video for the V3 build and was going to piece it together from that. This will help out a great deal.

The second image on this page in the seeme shop may be useful as well, since it breaks down the function of each pin on the HE280 connector. Once you understand that the Heat 1 + wire is the general purpose +12V, and the GND from the thermistor jack is the general purpose GND (which is WHY the polarity suddenly matters!), it makes a lot more sense to those of us that like to understand HOW it's working.

This wiring does not correlate with the HE280PCB.
Where are the 3 I2C signals and where do they go?
Where does the part fan connect to?
This is so confusing.
Where is the schematic/diagram that shows what the 8 wired from the HE280PCB go to on a RAMBO board?
All this blue, green, white, orange does me no good.
I was not going to pay $25 for a $2.50 connector and some colored wires that I have to splice into my stuff anyway. Kludge comes to mind.

He found colors a useful reference. However, between the pdf linked above and the image in my response prior to yours, you should have the essential information. The pdf relates connector the 8 HE280 connector pins to named Rambo connectors. You can easily find a diagram of where those connectors are on a Rambo, if you can't locate them yourself.

SDA and SCL are the TWO I2C signals, and they go to the I2C connector.

INT, while it's used to signal a probe hit, has nothing to do with I2C. It's simply a dedicated signal line that goes to the PS_ON connector.

The Thermistor and Constant Ground go to the T0 connector. The Ground pin on that connector is also the general ground for the HE280 board, so the polarity of that connector now matters, when it never did before.

The Hotend Ground and +12 go to Heat0 for the hotend using the larger gauge wires. The +12 is also the general power on the HE280 board.

The Layer Fan Ground goes to Fan0. It uses the +12 above for the the power side of the fan. That's why there is only one wire for the fan.

The LED's and hotend fan are hardwired to the +12 and Ground. No additional wires needed for them. (A few have added a 9th wire to regain control over the hotend fan, but that's another story.)

Clear as mud, right?

Thx Eric
I didn't see that diagram before but I was sure I had clicked on all the links. :oops:
I am trying to put a diamond head with magnetic ball mount onto a V2 with the HE280 level sense.
So I have a Rumba board not a Rambo because of the need for 3 extruders.
Thats mainly why all the colors and stock cable directions don't help me much.
I built a new HE280 PCB that mounts on top of the Diamond Head and uses different connectors that are more secure.
The new PCB has a big hole in it for the fan to blow through.
With your information I just might have it figured out.

For those adding the hotend fan control, what port are they usng to drive it?

Mhackney wrote up the hotend fan mod in his V3 build thread. You can adapt it to your circumstances:
